Below is a character analysis in relation to my essay question:
Winston: Winston Smith views the world with defiance, yearning for truth in a society dominated by lies. He embodies the conflict between the human desire for freedom and individuality and the instinct for survival under oppressive control.
Julia: Julia sees the world pragmatically, rebelling against the Party not for ideology but for personal freedom and pleasure. She represents the conflict between human passion and the need to navigate oppressive systems for survival.
O'Brien: O'Brien views the world through the lens of power, fully embracing the Party's ideology of control and domination. He symbolises the human conflict between intellectual conviction and the corrupting allure of authority.
Big Brother: Big brother, although not a real individual but a symbol of absolute authority and surveillance, represents the dangers of blind obedience to oppressive power.
The Party: The party views the world as a system to control, rewriting the truth and reality to maintain its dominance. It represents the conflict between the human drive for power and the destruction of individuality and freedom.
