MOUNT OUSLEY PUBLIC SCHOOL
A small school with big opportunities
A small school with big opportunities
Welcome to term 2!
We are looking forward to a term filled with learning, creativity, and fun!
Yesterday, we welcomed a new cohort of Year 5 students from across the region to the Extend High Potential and Gifted class. We are hosting this class on behalf of the Wollongong Primary Principals' Council. These classes provide selected Year 5 students with the opportunity to stretch their thinking and enhance their knowledge and skills. Ms. Erin Lam will be teaching the class each Tuesday. There are seven of these classes operating across the Illawarra to cater to students in all areas.
This week has already been busy, with the election BBQ held on Saturday and our Mother's Day Stall this morning. A big thank you to all the volunteers and those who baked goods to support these events. On Friday, our P&C will be running the canteen at the District Cross Country carnival at Kembla Joggers. This is a significant undertaking that relies heavily on our volunteers and we still need more help. Please contact the office if you are able help. The school canteen will be closed this Friday.
To streamline our communication with you, we have adjusted our emailing settings. If you have multiple children at the school, you will now receive a single email instead of one for each child. We hope this change helps all parents navigate school communications without cluttering their inboxes. We will also utilise the School News section of School Bytes for quick reminders. When items are posted here, you will receive a push notification, so please ensure you check this tab in your app.
Last week, I emailed all families a summary of the events for this term. Please use this information and the calendar as a reference for all school happenings. Some events will have an associated digital permission note, so please keep an eye out for those. Teachers have also sent you an overview of what your child will be learning during the first five weeks of the term. You will receive another email on Monday of Week 6 outlining the learning for the second half of the term. We hope this information helps you engage in meaningful discussions about your child's school day.
Miss Jones
K Yambayimba have had a wonderful start to Term 2! The students have returned eager to engage in their daily phonics lessons, literacy rotations, reading, writing and maths lessons. We have also started our Science unit exploring the materials that objects are made from, and we always enjoy developmental play where students collaborate, construct and show their creativity. We look forward to a term filled with exciting learning experiences!
Parking on Vereker Street
We have received multiple reports regarding vehicles stopping in the "no stopping" areas on Vereker Street close to the crossing. We have a duty of care to ensure the safety of our students as they arrive at school and where you park when picking up and dropping off your children impacts their safety.
Please be reminded that the "No Stopping" sign indicates that vehicles cannot stop in that area at all, unless it is an emergency vehicle.
We kindly ask that you adhere to the signage around the school when transporting your child/ren to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Ask your child questions such as:
What do you notice?
What stands out to you? Why?
What do you wonder?
Is there a question about this image that you’d like to spent time investigating? How could you explore that question?
Some of to big mathematical ideas to be explored include:
Seeing mathematics in the world
Posing mathematical questions
Attending to and using structure
Comparing quantities
Composing and decomposing number
Sorting, organising, and using attributes
The next P&C Meeting will be held Tuesday 13th May at 5.45pm in the Planning Room (K-2 side of the building). We warmly invite parents from K-2 to join us as we’d love to have more engagement from parents from these year groups. All parents and carers are invited from the school community.
District Cross Country Canteen – Friday 9th May
We need more volunteers to help out for the Canteen at District Cross Country on Friday 9th May at Kembla Joggers. Mount Ousley PS has been fortunate enough to secure this fundraising opportunity. The tasks include serving customers, selling pre-packaged items and drinks and cooking on the BBQ. We desperately need volunteers for the lunch timeslot 12-1pm. Please sign up below or get in touch via the FB page.

Hot Cross Bun Drive
Thanks to the school community for their support of this P&C fundraiser. This year’s Hot Cross Bun Drive was our most successful to date – we raised $639.50 for the school. Congratulations to the students who were the top fundraisers who received prizes courtesy of The Sensory Studio and the P&C.
Election Day BBQ and Bake Sale – Saturday 3rd May
Many thanks to the volunteers who worked on the Election BBQ and Bake Stall! A huge thanks also goes to the families who donated baked goods for the day. Your generosity is much appreciated. It was our best Election BBQ in the last few years and a successful fundraiser which raised $2,008.67 in profit to the school.
McDonald’s Fun Night Fundraiser
The P&C are excited to announce that we have been able to secure a date for a McDonald’s Fun Night at Fairy Meadow in term 2. McDonald’s Fairy Meadow will donate 10% of sales from the drive-thru only to support the Mount Ousley Public School P&C Association.
Details: Monday 26th May between 5pm-7pm only.
Location: Fairy Meadow McDonalds drive-thru only
Take the night off cooking dinner and treat the family to a Maccas Drive-Thru! Make sure you go through the drive-thru only between 5-7pm. This is a great opportunity to support our school. Please share with your family, friends, sporting teams and anyone else in the community and let them know to take the night off cooking for a Maccas dinner. The more interest that we can generate for the event – the more funds we can raise for the school!
