State Swimming
We wish Aria all the best as she is off to the NSW State Swimming Carnival at the end of this term. What a fantastic accomplishment, well done Aria! We know you will represent YPS with pride.
Interschool Chess Challenge
Congratulations to the students who represented our school at the Interschool Chess Challenge. A special thanks to Mrs Boon for all her help in bringing this opportunity to our school and all the staff who supported her on the day. It was lovely to host other schools for this great event.
National Young Leaders Conference
Our Prefect leadership team had a fantastic day at the National Young Leaders Conference last Tuesday. We heard inspirational speeches from Catherine Laga'aia, Emma McKeon, Thomas Duncan-Watt and Anthony "Harries" Carroll.
HPGE Social-emotional leadership day
Congratulations to Evander, Henry, Ariana and Issy for attending a Social-emotional leadership day at Waterfall PS last week. It was lovely to hear about how much they got out of the day.
Staffing
Mrs Polly Speechley, our permanent SAO, has advised that she will be taking leave in the lead up to retirement. We are very grateful to Mrs Speechley for her years of service and dedication to YPS and she will be greatly missed. Also, Miss Kathleen Holder has picked up a relieving SAM position at Bankstown Public School for the remainder of the year. We wish Miss Kathleen all the best for this new challenge and hope to see her back here in 2026. As such, we have two advertised EOIs for a SAO and SAM position at our school to commence in Term 2. I will keep you updated on staffing news for our office once these processes are finalised.
External Validation (EV)
This year our school will be externally validated (EV). Executive staff need to attend Miranda Office tomorrow for EV training to commence this process which will be completed in August this year. It is a big job, but always wonderful to review our practices and processes at the school. Whilst we are offsite tomorrow, Mr Dylan Robson will be relieving principal onsite.
PBL Rewards Day
PBL stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning.Students receive Burrabucks on the playground and in class for displaying the school values. These Burrabucks go into their house coloured tube near the canteen and, at the end of each term, the house with the most amount of Burrabucks get to participate in a rewards day. Our House Captains have selected the Reward this year to be a lollipop, wearing their house sports shirt and extra play with a dance party. Currently Thorpe is in the lead to take out the first Rewards Day of the year. We will announce the winning house later this week, so get those Burrabucks in!
ANZAC Assembly
Our school will hold a special ANZAC assembly next Monday.
Stage 3 camp
Our Stage 3 students are off to camp Tuesday-Friday next week. I know you will all have a brilliant time and my thanks to the Stage 3 staff: Mr K, Mrs Boon and Mr Robson for giving up time with their family for our YPS fam. Parents, please ensure camp fees have been paid and that students are collected promptly at the end of camp. Thank you.
Easter Hat Parade
Our Kindergarten - Year 4 students will be participating in our annual Easter Hat Parade on Friday 11 April from 2:30pm. Please come along and join in the fun! Thank you to those who have made a donation to the Easter Raffle.
Pedestrian Crossing Relocation
Council have proposed a relocation of the existing pedestrian crossing on Old Bush Road to help keep our students safe now that the entry and exit gate to the school is near the Cottage. They are looking at moving it approximately 40 metres to the north-west, closer to the intersection with Cooinda Street. I will keep you posted with any updates I receive.
Camp Australia Update
Unfortunately Camp Australia have not received the final paperwork to be able to offer vacation care for this upcoming holiday period. They apologise for this and have informed me that the vacation care service will be open after Term 2, ready for the July holidays.
Colleen has also asked me to let you know that she has been re-admitted to hospital a number of times post surgery due to complications. She is back home now, but is still very ill. The YPS staff have sent her a card and care package to let her know that we are thinking of her.
Friday 11 April is the last day of Term 1 for 2025. Staff return for 2 staff development days (Monday 28 April and Tuesday 29 April), with all students returning for Term 2 on Wednesday 30 April.
We hope you have a wonderful Easter holiday break and look forward to seeing you all back for an exciting Term 2!
Kind regards,
Kyleigh Nash
