Students in band need to be committed to weekly lessons, home practice, taking care of their instrument and being punctual to weekly band rehearsals.
Students can use the school drum kit for rehearsals and lessons, but it’s not available for private practice. For individual practice, they should use their own drum kit at home.
Q. My child is participating in the String Group, can he/she do it together with the school band?
Yes, since the rehearsal schedules do not overlap, it’s feasible to participate in both the String Group and the school band.
Q. Do percussion instruments require weekly lessons?
Yes, weekly instrument lessons are compulsory for all band instruments.
Q. What happens if there is a change of instrument choices? Do the students have a chance to try all the instruments?
If a student wishes to switch their instrument, they should inform the music teachers first, exchange the instrument, and complete a minimum of five lessons with the instrument tutor before rejoining the band.
Q. What are the differences between a concert band and performance band?
Our school bands are organised according to students’ skill levels and experience. The Training Band is designed for beginners, the Concert Band is open to students with at least one year of experience in the Training Band who meet the eligibility criteria, and the Performance Band is for students with a minimum of one year of experience in the Concert Band and those who are ready to take the next step.
