PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL
USEFUL ACTIVITIES TO TRY IN THE LEAD-UP TO STARTING KINDERGARTEN
Try this:
Set up a play date for your child to play with a friend.
Check out the local library and let your child choose books to borrow.
Take a ball to a park to throw, catch and kick together.
Organise a picnic with a packed lunch and encourage your child to open it and eat the food by themselves.
View Daisy’s First Day (see below) or a book about starting school together.
Practise:
Writing their name.
Opening lunch boxes independently.
Putting on school shoes and walking in them.
Dressing in the school uniform.
Going to the toilet independently.
Writing the letters of the alphabet and numbers to 10.
Drinking from bubblers.
Cutting and pasting pictures from a magazine and drawing pictures.

The activities are designed for you to have fun with your child and to help them have a great start at school. Encourage your child to participate and explore the activities and support their individual responses.
