Scientists measure a variety of properties to determine water quality.
These include evidence of macroinvertebrates, temperature, acidity (pH), dissolved oxygen, salinity, nitrogen, phosphorus and turbidity.
Each of these tests reveal something different about the health of a water body.
Changes in water quality may put pressure on an ecosystem. Changes may be due to either increases or decreases in the various water quality parameters. Such changes are called water quality stressors.
The sub-pages attached to this Main page are designed to support students to conduct these tests out in the field.
