The first day of spring has come to an end… and Hatch Watch continues! 👀🥚
Cheese and Vegemite have had another very busy day meeting visitors, exploring their brooder and charming just about everyone who comes near them. 💛🖤
They’ve been practising their climbing skills (including on things that are probably meant for eating!), enjoying lots of cosy naps and showing us just how important gentle hands are when holding our tiny friends.
Meanwhile, all eyes have been on the incubator…
Our five eggs are still tucked safely inside, and as we head home for the night, we’re still waiting for that exciting first sign of hatching.
No pips just yet… but perhaps our little chicks have decided that the first night of spring is the perfect time to start making their way into the world. 🌸🥚🐣

Meet the flock behind our Hume Hatchery eggs!
Our 12 Silkie eggs came from Cheeky Chicken Hobby Farm. Before arriving at Hume Public School, they were collected and carefully prepared for their journey to our classroom.
Silkies are a special breed of chicken known for their soft, fluffy feathers. We're hoping that in around 21 days, some of the tiny chicks developing inside our eggs will be ready to meet us!
