This site aims to provide students with information to make a more informed decision when choosing subjects for year 11.
The History/Language Faculty offers a range of courses to suit all students.
For those students who have a passion for History, they may choose from: Ancient History, Modern History and if they are exceptional, History Extension is also on offer. We also have a new course called 'History Matters' which aims to cater to our NON-ATAR students who are passionate about History but do not want the rigorous learning.
For those students who have a passion for languages, we offer Spanish Beginners, Italian Beginners and French Beginners as options. If you have not studied a language in year 9 and 10 you may choose a Language Beginners course.

Ancient History helps students to analyse and to explore different ancient societies. I enjoy Ancient History because I get to learn in depth about ancient cultures and civilisations.

Personally, Ancient History has not only been an interesting subject to learn about, but has rather helped me to better understand the commonalities and differences between ancient and modern civilisations. This includes an insight into why and how history has unfolded and become as it is.
Modern History has given me the opportunity to understand the progression of society in a more impartial manner to help me better comprehend both the achievements and/or mistakes of the past This includes an insight into why and how history has unfolded and become as it is.
As the History Extension course has a greater emphasis on historiography, this has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding on how and why historical interpretations are developed from different perspectives and approaches over time. This can be seen further throughout our case study of JFK, which has allowed me to consider the sources (evidence) from historians that are used to establish their own unique interpretations and how this contributes to a better understanding of JFK's presidency.
