Orientation Program

Making a Successful Transition into Kindergarten 2021

The Hillsborough Public School 2021 Kindergarten Orientation program is looking different to all others we have run in the past. Previously, students would visit the school grounds several times to familiarise themselves with the classroom, class teacher, school grounds and their Year 6 buddies. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, these practices have been modified, however, we aim to provide the smoothest transition as possible for all 2021 students through the use of technology and our 'Enrolment Interview', to be held on school grounds.

Our Enrolment Interview

Enrolment interviews will take place on school grounds between Monday, 26 October and Wednesday, 28 October. Families may choose a time between 9am and 11am and 2pm - 3pm. Interviews will run for approx. 25 minutes. Additional times may be available. Please contact the office on 49425695 or via email, hillsboro-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au to book your appointment.

Upon arrival, students will be greeted by 2021 Year 6 buddies and the K-2 Assistant Principal, Mrs Alison Miller. Students will be taken on a tour of our school with their family, showing students where their classroom is, toilets, play areas, library, office and canteen. Our 2021 Kindergarten teachers will meet with students and families, as well as our school principal, Mrs Cassie Bate-Barnier. During this meeting, we will answer any questions you may have, take the time to get to know each student and make them feel comfortable. Each student will receive their 'Kindergarten Pack' containing goodies that will help increase the excitement of starting their school journey at Hillsborough Public School and help them feel at ease.

Our amazing P&C members will also be on school grounds in our Uniform Shop, where families will be able to see our uniforms, try on for sizing and also place orders.

Resources to Support Transition

As part of your enrolment visit, you will receive a 'Welcome Pack'. This pack will be a useful resource to get students into the 'feel' of starting school, with their own hat, t-shirt, social story and home resources. In addition to these, we will be adding videos and information on this web page to help connect children to the school and familiarise themselves with the setting.

Transition to School Statement

The Transition to School Statement gives a snapshot of this child’s strengths, perspectives, and personality. It helps link the Early Years Learning Framework to the Early Stage 1 Syllabus in kindergarten so that teachers can better understand each child’s learning, development, and background. This form is to be completed by your child's Early Childhood teacher or educator. You will find a printed copy in your "Welcome Pack" but it can also be completed via this fillable PDF - Transition to School Statement.

New! Orientation Sessions are going ahead!

We are very excited to announce that due to the NSW Department of Education lifting some restrictions, we are now able to welcome Kindergarten 2021 students onsite for Orientation sessions in the classroom and on school grounds. This is wonderful news as it enables students to engage in three visits to the school and in the classroom with 2021 peers and staff. Students will be engaged in fun activities that support students in feeling comfortable in their new surroundings, as well as meeting their Year 6 buddies and start to form new friendships. As per COVID-19 restrictions, parents will need to remain off-site, and meet Mrs Miller, Mrs Bate-Barnier and Miss Doosey (Assistant Principal) at the school gates on Waratah Avenue from 9:10am. Students will then be escorted by staff to the classroom and will be returned back to the school gates individually from 10:15am, after the session. Students will not need to bring anything with them except their smiles. We cannot wait to see them!
