Activity 1: Key Syllabus Terms


Natural systems: The systems of Earth (lithosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and atmosphere) that interact to produce environments on earth.  

Atmosphere:   The layers of gases surrounding a planet. Earth’s atmosphere is composed of about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and one percent other gases. 

Hydrology:  Hydrology is the study of the distribution and movement of water both on and below the Earth’s surface, as well as the impact of human activity on water availability and conditions.

Geomorphology: The study of the process of the formation of landforms and sediments on the Earth's surface. 

Ecology: The study of organisms and how they interact with the environment around them.
