In this BPS Library Resource Guide, we will learn about:
the natural features of Australia and China. We will look for ways they are similar and different.
the landforms, climates and living things that make up environments.
how to think of questions and then find out the answers. This is called inquiring. People who inquire are inquirers.
how to make notes about what we find so that we can write about it in our own words.
When you see this icon it means you can learn a thinking tip to help with your inquiry.
In this BPS Library Resource Guide you will see sections made with dividing lines like those above and below this message. Each time you come to a dividing line you should stop and reflect:
What did I learn in this section?
What surprised me?
What do I still want to learn?
Jot down your questions in your journal and think about how you would find out the answers. If you want help, ask BPS Library!
Geography is the study of places and the ways people live in, look after and interact with environments.
Geographers learn about the physical features of the Earth and the societies that live on it.
Geographical inquiry is how we find out about geography. When we inquire, we do 3 things:
Work out what we want to know and gather information
Evaluate the information and work out what to do with it
Share the information and put it to use.
Sometimes you might see more than one place to visit to find information. They are labelled:
Quick Read: An easier text to read. Sometimes the information is shown in pictures or video to make it easier.
Just the Facts: A shorter text, but has some harder words.
Up for a Challenge: A harder text with more detail. It will give you a better understanding but is harder to read. This might be a good one for using in a group.
You should choose the level that is best for you. If you're not sure, start with the quick read, then try the harder ones.
