In Term 3 we are reading a book called 'Wandi' by Favel Parrett.
It is about a dingo called Wandi. He is an Alpine Dingo. He is from the cold, snowy mountains in Australia.
When Wandi is a cub (a baby), he is snatched (taken) by an eagle.
He is taken far away from his family.
He is dropped in someone's backyard. He is scared, sad and has scratches on his back.
A human finds and rescues Wandi.
The human takes him to a vet (animal doctor). The vet says the human cannot keep Wandi as a pet. Wandi is wild and not a dog.
Wandi goes to a dingo sanctuary where he can be safe.
Alpine dingoes are endangered (there are not many in the wild). Many have been killed by people who think that dingoes are pests (bad).
The people at the sanctuary want to protect Wandi and keep him safe. He is a very special dingo.
Wandi tries to make friends but it is difficult (hard) to fit in. He meets a female dingo. Her name is Hermione. They become very good friends. They grow up together and end up having a family of their own.
Wandi's story is very famous. People from all over the world know about him. Wandi helps people to see how special dingoes are and how we should protect them.
