These rules apply to formal examinations.
These formal examination rules apply once students enter the assessment centre
When you are seated, check to ensure that you have the correct examination paper.
BORROWING OF EQUIPMENT IS NOT PERMITTED DURING THE EXAMINATIONS. Supply your own required equipment for each of your exams and do not expect staff to provide you with the required items. You are responsible for ensuring that your equipment, including calculator, is in good working order and for providing your own stationery items such as stapler, pens (black pen is recommended), pencils, rubber, ruler, sharpener, highlighter, etc. All equipment must be in a clear plastic bag and placed on the floor during each examination.
Writing paper will be provided. You are NOT to bring any paper into the examination room.
Books or notes are not permitted. Language students are permitted the use of a monolingual or bilingual dictionary. Electronic dictionaries are not permitted.
Writing booklets, examination papers and scrap paper are not to be removed from the examination room.
Mobile phones, smart watches, electronic dictionaries, organisers, other electronic devices such as electronic tablets are NOT PERMITTED in the examination room. NESA approved calculators will be permitted into the examination room. Check with your teachers regarding other specific examination equipment required.
Watches are to be removed and placed on the examination desk during the examination. The smart watch is an electronic device and is not permitted.
Talking is not permitted once inside the examination room. Talking or communicating with any person other than the supervising teacher may be considered as malpractice. Supervisors will advise the relevant Head Teacher of any students who may have breached the examination rules.
Eating and drinking are not permitted in the examination room. Water must be in a clear bottle with no covering labels.
You are NOT PERMITTED to leave the examination room early. You must remain in the examination room for the entire duration of your examination.
Reading time is for reading, and NO writing, highlighting or marking of the exam paper may be undertaken during reading time.
Non-serious attempts may be considered as not satisfying an assessment task requirement.
You will not be permitted to go to the toilet in the first half hour or last half hour of your examination. You must sign the toilet register when you go and when you return from the toilet and you must use the toilet closest to the examination venue. The supervisors will record the time that the student leaves and returns from the toilet. The Toilet Register will be monitored by teachers for any irregular patterns. You do not get more time if you take a toilet break.
Any incidents of suspected malpractice will be reported to the Deputy Principal who will determine the penalty. Students found to have engaged in malpractice will have a right of appeal to the Principal. There are no further avenues of appeal.
