Teacher notes

This resource is designed to support student learning in Stage 3 Mathematics.

It provides an interactive introduction to the Cartesian plane, its components and the use of Cartesian coordinates.

The activities have been created in Desmos and can be delivered in two ways:

Option 1 – Students complete independently

• Access a copy of the activity.
• Select 'Create Class Code'. You will be prompted to login.
• Select 'Copy and edit' if you like to make changes to the resource, otherwise select 'Create Class Code' again. This will display a class code.
• Share the class code with your students. They will use this code to access the activities.

Option 2 – Students complete as a class

• Project this screen onto the interactive whiteboard and press 'Student Preview'. Work through the actvities together.

What is Desmos?

Desmos is free, dynamic maths software built for collaborative learning. It includes teacher tools that provide quick feedback on student understanding.

Setting up an account with Desmos will allow you to copy and edit existing resources in the site, as well as create your own. You can also use the 'class code' feature to gain data on student responses.
