Dear Parent and Carers,
I trust that all mothers, grandmothers and mother figures in our community had a wonderful Mothers’ Day. A special thank you to our hardworking P and C Executive and parents who worked tirelessly to ensure our Mothers’ Day stall and breakfast were well organised and once again a special event to celebrate our mothers.
Peer Mediators
Congratulations to our Year 6 Peer Mediators who have completed their training in conflict resolution and are now ready to assist in resolving student disputes.
Peer mediation is a valuable process where students actively participate in resolving conflicts among their peers. This approach involves two trained student mediators guiding their fellow students through a structured process to find solutions.
Supported and supervised by school staff trained in mediation, this program serves as an early intervention strategy that can effectively solve minor playground issues that may escalate.
Benefits for Primary Students:
Encourages students to take responsibility for solving their own problems
Helps decrease gossip and rumour spreading, name calling, friendship issues, loss of property and exclusion
Develops essential life skills such as communication, listening, and problem-solving
Benefits for Student Mediators:
Enhances social, language, and leadership abilities
Boosts self-esteem through their important role
Benefits for Staff:
Minimises time spent managing minor conflicts
Reduces classroom disruptions caused by disputes
Benefits for the Whole School:
Creates a safer, more positive, and harmonious environment
Lowers bullying incidents
Improves overall school climate through stronger student relationships
We are proud of our Year 6 Peer Mediators for taking on this important role to contribute to a supportive and respectful school community. They can be easily found in the playground wearing a white Putney school hat.

Congratulations to all the students who represented our school at the Ryde Zone PSSA Cross Country Carnival yesterday. The top eight finishers from our school carnival earned the opportunity to compete at the Zone event.
During Monday’s assembly, ribbons were presented to the first three placegetters in recognition of their outstanding achievements.
I'd like to thank Ms Flint, for organising the school team and Mrs Talevski, Ms Christie and Ms Xue (our Teacher Education Students) for accompanying our team. Thank you to Mrs Amelia Kingsley-Miller for helping transport equipment for us.
Congratulations to Irene H and Aiden C who were selected to represent our school at the Rotary Public Speaking Competition hosted by Eastwood Heights Public School last night.
Irene presented a speech titled If I were Prime Minister for a week whilst Aiden presented a persuasive speech outlining details as to why his parents should buy him a pet.
What a wonderful opportunity for our talented Stage 3 students to present alongside other public-school students and in front of a panel of judges. Thank you to Ms Sullivan for coordinating our students’ participation in the event.
Our school strives to foster a strong collaborative culture which includes opportunities to collaborate with staff from other schools to help share and embed effective practice. Last Wednesday, Mrs St Flour hosted 13 K-2 Assistant Principals from Ryde Network schools. It was an extremely successful meeting with many resources shared and rigorous discussion concerning curriculum and programming.
This afternoon Principals and Assistant Principals from the Ryde Network will be meeting to discuss and share their school’s focus regarding explicit teaching. I am proud of the work our staff have done to implement effective strategies and explicit teaching in our classrooms.
Congratulations to our recent recipients of Gold Awards at the K-6 Assembly on Monday.

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can help teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
• Walking with them the whole way to school
• If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic.
Our student leaders will be handing out Walk Safely to School Day tattoos at the school gates to help inspire our students to be more active and spread the message Active Kids are Healthy Kids

Congratulations to our senior students Jock and Jude who were recently selected to represent Ryde at the Ryde-Beecroft Zone Touch Football. We wish them well at the next trial.
The students are loving the new handball courts in the platypus playgrounds and are very impressed with Mr Fletcher our General Assistant who has been giving some playground marking a much needed facelift.

And it's official - book the sitter for the P&C Parent's Trivia Night Out on Saturday 25 July to join us for a fun-filled, kid-free evening!
