Welcome to the Burn 2 Learn teaching resource
Burn 2 Learn is a research informed, school-based physical activity program for senior school students. Burn 2 Learn utilises the science of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) to improve students’ health, fitness, wellbeing and academic performance, using short but effective workouts. The program includes a variety of pre-designed HIIT workouts.
The Burn 2 Learn teaching resource has been created to support Stage 6 teachers when implementing Burn 2 Learn within their teaching and learning.
The sequence of HIIT sessions have been planned based on the progressive overload theory; exercise intervals increase and rest periods decrease as students progress through the phases.
Teachers are encouraged to modify this program to suit the needs and abilities of their students.

Weekly HIIT sessions
Phase 1 - Getting started
Recommended duration: 4 weeks
This phase is comprised of HIIT workouts that require minimal explanation and simplistic exercises.
Phase 2 - Maintaining student interest
Recommended duration: 4 weeks
This phase includes HIIT workouts that are intended to stimulate both the mind and body. These sessions may require a little more attention to the activity cards to ensure exercises are performed correctly.
Phase 3 - Moving towards independence
To support student independence, this phase includes HIIT workouts in different locations and also provide opportunities for student autonomy. Custom HIIT sessions are an effective tool for students to take ownership of their physical activity. Please note, Custom HIIT sessions will require additional time for students to create their own HIIT session.
