Core Performance (20%) - this dance requires the dancer to perform a routine choreographed by the dance teacher. The routine should be at least 3 - 4 minutes long, that showcases a dancers technique and performance quality. The dancer should have the ability to demonstrate their quality lines, control, use of dynamics, kinaesthetic awareness and the body skills listed in the approved body skills table.
Core Composition (20%) - This piece is choreographed and designed by the student completing the HSC practical exam. This work must have a concept/intent and must display to the marker the use of motifs, sequences and phrases. The work is always performed by another dancer from the school of the student performing the HSC practical exam. The work is required to be between 3 - 5 minutes in duration, with no props or costumes allowed.
Major Study Performance (40%) - This work is considered to be driven by a theme and the dancers interpretation of the work. The dancer must perform this work with their developed dance technique and performance quality. The must have the capacity to perform and portray the intent or theme of the dance to the markers.
