What things should you look for in a device for learning? 

 Device hardware specifications must meet the minimum – 

• 64-bit with at least 8GB RAM (16 GB is preferred) to ensure devices can run software such as Adobe Express.

• Solid State Drive (SSD) with a minimum of 256GB storage.

• Laptop or 2-in-1n 1 device.

• Battery Life of 6+ hours.

• Lightweight, under 1.5 kg

• 11" -13" diameter screen. 

• Dual Band Wi-Fi (The DEC wireless network installed in all NSW Public High Schools only operates on the 802.11n 5GHz standard. Devices with 802.11a/b/g or 802.11n. 2.4GHz only will not be able to connect)

• Currently supported Operating System – PC Windows 11. Mac OSX 10.14 or above

For all students, we recommend the purchase of Windows devices. 

• Macbooks may provide additional benefits for students undertaking electives in the creative and performing arts, however, they can be a costly alternative. 

• The use of Chromebooks and iPads can allow students to perform most functions but they are prohibitive in terms of access to all applications available to students at Bulli HS. 

• Android based tablets are not recommended and are highly discouraged.

Where can you buy the correct device? 

Parents are welcome to purchase devices anywhere. There is no preferred platform at Bulli HS. Parents should purchase a device that suits their child's needs and family circumstances. 

We have partnered with both HP and Learning with Technologies to provide parents support in selecting a suitable device. Links to their portals are below. These programs are not managed by the school but give parents some options to start their investigation of which device best suits their budget and requirements. We strongly suggest the purchase of a protective case and insurance to ensure the device is covered for accidental damage.
