Data collection and representation

Introduction

Students will:   

• use and interpret the terminology of data: categorical, numerical, discrete, continuous, census and sample

• collect different data types

• investigate a variety of ways to visually represent data

• reflect on aspects that provide clear communication with visual data representations

• research data and design an infographic to communicate a message.

Extension

Students will:   

• be able to select and create the appropriate graph for the data type collected. 

Outcomes:

• MA4-1WM communicates and connects mathematical ideas using appropriate terminology, diagrams and symbols

• MA4-3WM recognises and explains mathematical relationships using reasoning 

• MA4-19SP collects, represents and interprets single sets of data, using appropriate statistical displays

1. What is data?

Students will:

• draw their own visual representation of collected data.

• To use:

  1. Setup your own free account in Kahoot 

  2. Copy the quiz into your library

  3. Assign it as a challenge quiz so students can complete at their own pace.
