Introduction

Students will:   

• calculate the perimeter of a variety of plane shapes

• learn to recognise and name the parts of a circle

• investigate the relationship between the circumference and diameter of a circle

• calculate the circumference of a circle from its diameter and radius

• calculate the diameter of a circle from its circumference.

Outcomes:

• MA4-1WM communicates and connects mathematical ideas using appropriate terminology, diagrams and symbols

• MA4-2WM applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems

• MA4-3WM recognises and explains mathematical relationships using reasoning 

• MA4-12MG calculates the perimeters of plane shapes and the circumferences of circles

1. Perimeter (60 mins)

Students will:   

• revise the definition of perimeter

• calculate the perimeter of a variety of plane shapes.
