As we head into the last two weeks of term, staff have been busy finalising student reports, which will be distributed to parents and carers via School Bytes on Monday 29th June.
A big thank you to our P&C for organising another fun and successful disco for our students. Events like these truly rely on the invaluable support of parents and teachers who generously volunteer their time to help supervise and ensure everything runs smoothly. The excitement was even greater thanks to the Year 6 fundraising efforts prior to the event, which added to the fun and spirit of the evening. We appreciate everyone’s contribution to making this a memorable experience for our students.
Last Tuesday, our SRC Councillors and some enthusiastic Kindergarten students had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with representatives from Ryde City Council and Fiona Robbe Landscape Architects. Together, they discussed and shared ideas to create fun and engaging playground spaces for the community. With 97 playground spaces currently situated across the Ryde Local Government Area, it was inspiring to see our students actively involved in shaping our local environment and contributing to community wellbeing.
On Wednesday morning, our Concert Band showcased their talents at the Band Together Festival held at Riverside Theatre. Thanks to an opportunity provided by Bands Australia, our students performed in front of a live audience and adjudicators who offered very positive feedback. This experience has been invaluable in developing their confidence and musicianship, and we are proud of their achievement.
The stunning photography captured by our very talented Nina Ghadia perfectly showcases the fun and enthusiasm that our K-2 students brought to the carnival last Thursday. Thanks to the support of the Got Game team, our dedicated organisers—Mrs Baxter, Mrs St Flour, and Mr Fung—were delighted to see our students actively encouraging their peers and eagerly participating in every event. Our student leaders, including House and Vice Captains, demonstrated great leadership as skilled instructors and provided strong support to all competitors.
As previously mentioned in our newsletters, our school currently has capacity and is accepting out-of-area enrolments. We have received strong interest from families outside our catchment zone and continue to get enquiries. If your child is starting school in 2027 and you have not yet submitted an online enrolment, please do so at your earliest convenience.
An Open Day for 2027 Kindergarten students is scheduled for the 4th August.
Additionally, if your child will not be returning to Putney in 2027 and you have not yet notified the administration office, please help us with our planning by informing us as soon as possible. Projected 2027 numbers are due to be submitted to the Department as early as August.
Congratulations to our Stage 2 and 3 representatives at the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition: Zuhul T, Harper W, Dev K and Laura Q.
Yesterday, the Junior and Senior dance groups had their rehearsal during the day followed by their performance last night and will take to the stage once again tonight at Glen St Theatre, Belrose. Our Senior dance group auditioned last week for inclusion in the Ryde Schools Performing Arts Festival on Monday 19th October.
Today, Avah and Jai L, our First Nations students, participated in the Ryde Cammeray Culture and Connection Day held at the Field of Mars Environmental Education Centre. They joined other local First Nations high school and primary students for this valuable opportunity to connect with their peers and deepen their understanding of their rich cultural heritage.
Each year, during the first week of July, National NAIDOC Week celebrations take place across Australia to honour and recognise the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week offers all Australians the chance to deepen their understanding of First Nations cultures and histories and join in celebrating the world’s oldest continuous living cultures.
In 2026, NAIDOC Week marks a significant milestone, celebrating 50 years of amplifying and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. The theme, "50 Years of Deadly," recognises the resilience, creativity, and leadership shown by Indigenous communities over the past five decades. It pays tribute to the dedication of Elders, activists, artists, and organisers who have kept the NAIDOC movement thriving year after year.
Our school is excited to welcome Deadly Ed, who will lead our students in an interactive workshop featuring boomerang throwing, Aboriginal artwork, and weaving. This workshop supports our school’s NAIDOC learning program, designed to encourage meaningful conversations and greater awareness of Aboriginal sustainable practices and artistic traditions.
Additionally, the SRC has proposed a special mufti day where students are invited to wear casual clothes in the colours of either the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander flags to show their support and respect.
It’s shaping up to be another busy fortnight as we prepare to head into the school holidays. We look forward to making the most of these final weeks, celebrating our students’ achievements and participating in exciting events like NAIDOC Week.
Wishing everyone a safe and restful break ahead!
