What an exciting day we had last Tuesday with the team from Zing Active helping our Year 6 students raise money for their gift to the school! The students and teachers had a fantastic time getting sprayed with colourful powder, creating memories full of laughter and fun. A highlight was definitely the teacher’s race, where the Year 6 students got their sweet revenge!
A big thank you to Nina for once again capturing all the fun and excitement on camera. We feel so fortunate to have her beautifully documenting our special events.
Thank you to all parents and carers who joined us last Friday for the student-led reporting sessions. This approach allows students to actively share their own learning progress, achievements, and areas for growth. By encouraging self-assessment and responsibility, student-led reporting helps develop critical thinking and communication skills. It also creates a more personalised and meaningful conversation about each student's development. It was wonderful to see how proud our students were as they reflected on their learning.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 students Elina, Annika, and Irene for creating the short film Beyond Popularity, which has been selected as a finalist in the School Short category of the 2026 Focus on Ability Short Film Festival.
The festival organisers praised the girls’ film for standing out among entries from filmmakers around the world, and we are thrilled to celebrate their achievement as part of this year’s festival.
As finalists, they have been invited to attend the Sydney Red Carpet Awards later this year, where their film will be showcased on the big screen alongside other outstanding finalists. Congratulations once again to Elina, Annika, and Irene for this wonderful accomplishment!.
The winter PSSA season has come to an impressive close, bringing outstanding results for our teams. Congratulations to the Junior Boys’ Tiger Tag team, as well as both the Senior and Junior Girls’ Football teams. Last week at Meadowbank Park was full of excitement, vibrant cheering, and a special visit from Parry, who joined in to support our players. While all the games were fiercely contested, the Senior Girls’ Football team earned a hard-fought draw, securing the title of joint champions alongside Smalls Rd.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all PSSA coaches and parents for their ongoing dedication and support throughout the season:
Tiger Tag: Mr David Webb
Netball: Mrs Sahar Oh and Ms Elle Foster
Football: Mr Nick Fung and Mrs Annalisa Talevski
Coaching can often be a challenging and sometimes thankless role, but we deeply appreciate the commitment of our teachers, who not only help our players develop their sporting skills but also instil the values of good sportsmanship.
Summer PSSA will continue next term, and once again, we are excited to offer swimming lessons at Ryde Aquatic Centre with qualified instructors. Please note that there is a limit of 30 students allowed to attend the pool sessions. If your child is not yet confident in swimming, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to learn.
When we send the permission notes out to parents through School Bytes, we will be asking about your child’s swimming ability and whether they have previously participated in Friday swimming lessons. This information will help us make the selection process fair for all students.
If you would like your child to participate and they are not currently in a Summer PSSA team from Term 1, please be aware that the permission form will be available via School Bytes on Friday, 25th September.
Festival of Instrumental Combined String Performance
Congratulations to Aatra A and Timmy S for being accepted into the Festival of Instrumental Music combined string ensemble. They performed on Tuesday evening at the Opera House. Such a wonderful opportunity from the DOE Arts Department for our students when we don't have a strings program at our school.
Congratulations to our Recorder Ensemble for their outstanding performance last night at the Sydney Opera House. The students have been rehearsing diligently during lunchtimes throughout the year to prepare for this special concert. We extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated teachers, Mrs. Ignazzi and Mr. Fung, for their support and commitment in providing our students with the incredible opportunity to perform at this iconic venue.
Congratulations to our talented public speakers who proudly represented our school at yesterday’s final held at Meadowbank PS:
Early Stage 1: Vanessa M
Stage 1: Phillipa N
Stage 2: Lara C
Stage 3: Annika S
A big thank you to Ms Sullivan for coordinating our involvement in this event, and to our parents for their support with transportation.
As principal, I am incredibly proud to present pen licences to our Year 4 students, recognising their achievement after writing thoughtful persuasive letters to me. This milestone not only celebrates their progress in developing strong writing skills but also showcases their ability to express themselves confidently and convincingly. As part of this achievement, students are presented with a Putney pen.
It is with mixed emotions that I inform you Ms Kat Donnelly will be relocating to Queensland with her family for Term 4.
Over the past eight years at Putney, Ms Donnelly has been an invaluable asset to our school community.
Her professionalism, dedication, and commitment to excellence have greatly enriched our students’ learning experiences and contributed positively to the broader school environment.
I know I speak on behalf of the entire school community in expressing our gratitude for her outstanding contributions and wishing her and her family all the very best in this new chapter.
The Puggles will be taught by Mrs Kat Formosa on Thursday and Friday
who is excited to be relieving in this role .
Congratulations to all students who recently participated in the ICAS Assessments. We have been notified of those who have achieved exceptional results. Certificates will be distributed to the students once they arrive.

Dear Families,
We are delighted to invite our grandparents and special guests to join us for Grandparents Day on Thursday, 29 October 2026, from 11:35 a.m. to 1:55 p.m.
We kindly ask that all visitors be seated on the steps of Koala Court, facing the Outback, by 11:35 a.m. for our special Grandparents Day Assembly.
Following the assembly, grandparents will be invited to visit their grandchildren's classrooms from approximately 12:10 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. If there is more than one grandchild at the school, we kindly ask that time is split between their classrooms. Grandparents will be escorted by a grandchild to their siblings’ classrooms.
Following classroom visits, grandparents and special guests are warmly invited to enjoy a picnic lunch with their grandchildren on the Outback from approximately 1:00 p.m. Families are asked to bring their own chairs or picnic rugs, as seating is limited.
Picnic packs will be available for pre-purchase, with orders closing Thursday, 22 October 2026. Tea and coffee will also be available for purchase from the canteen on the day.
Wet weather arrangements will be communicated closer to the event. We are, of course, hoping for beautiful weather so that everyone can enjoy this special occasion outdoors.
We look forward to welcoming our grandparents and special guests and sharing this special day with our school community.
Warm regards,
Putney Public School
What an amazing day we had at our Colour Run Carnival last week! Our students had an incredible time running, jumping, laughing and getting covered in colour. It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved, supporting one another and enjoying the experience with their friends.
A huge thank you to our wonderful families for their generous donations and fundraising efforts. Your support helped make the event such a success, and we are incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm shown by our school community.
A special thank you to Nina, our wonderful photographer, for capturing so many fantastic moments throughout the day.
Thank you to our students, families and staff for making the Colour Run Carnival such a fun, colourful and memorable day at Putney Public School! 🌈🎉
On Wednesday night, 56 proud Putney students performed at the Sydney Opera House as part of the Festival of Instrumental Music. Some have been committed members of the group for several years. Some just picked up the recorder for the first time this year! Students conducted themselves commendably in public and played wonderfully at the concert itself.
Thank you to Mrs Ignazzi for coordinating this opportunity for our students year after year. Thank you also to Moana and Leanne for coming along to help supervise our students. And thank you to all recorder families for supporting your child's exploration of music!
What an incredible way to finish our 2026 Winter PSSA season! We were so proud to have three Putney teams represented in the finals this year.
A huge congratulations to our Senior Girls Football team, who brought home the gold! 🥇 We are incredibly proud of our Junior Tiger Tag and Junior Girls Football teams, who gave it their absolute best in the finals and finished as runners-up! 🥈
It has been another fantastic season across all our sports, with students representing Putney in football, tiger tag and netball. We have loved seeing the students develop their skills, work together as a team and, most importantly, enjoy themselves along the way.
A very big thank you to all of our wonderful coaches for the time, energy and commitment they have given to our teams throughout the season, as well as our parent volunteers who generously assisted along the way.
What a way to end the season! We are so proud of all our PSSA students and everything they have achieved this winter.
Congratulations to our three outstanding students who proudly represented our school and the Ryde Zone at Monday's Sydney Regional Athletics Carnival.
Melanie M competed in the 1500m, finishing 15th, while Mackenzie T won his heat in the 8 years 100m and secured 7th place in the final. Eleanor F achieved an impressive third place in the 9 years 100m, earning her a spot in the upcoming PSSA State Championship.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements, and the team manager praised their excellent behaviour throughout the event.
Well done to all!
