Each year there are a number of external assessments that students are asked to participate in. These assessments, run by NESA and ACARA are used to report on student performance in NSW and Australia. Parents are provided with additional information when students are involved in these assessments.
These mandatory assessments are help throughout the year include:
NAPLAN - NAPLAN assessments measure student performance in Australia in Reading, Writing, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy in Year 7 and Year 9
VALID - This test is linked to the science syllabuses, and assesses what students know and can do in science. It also provides useful information about student attitudes towards science and is completed by students in Year 8 and Year 10.
Check-In Tests - Check-in tests measure student performance in the state in Reading and Numeracy in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9.
Minimum Standards Tests - All students who wish to sit the Higher School Certificate must meet a minimum standard of literacy (reading and writing) and numeracy. Students first sit the Minimum Standards Tests in Year 10 but if unsuccessful, are able to sit the tests in Year 11 and Year 12.
