Dear Parent and Caregivers,
As we conclude Week 8, our teachers are getting ready for parent-teacher interviews scheduled for Weeks 9 and 10. Please book your interview time through School Bytes. We kindly ask parents not to approach teachers during their duty time to discuss their child, as teachers need to stay attentive while supervising their designated area. However, parents are welcome to arrange interviews with their child’s teacher outside of the designated two-week interview period if needed.
Parry Welcome Picnic
I’d like to extend a thank you to all the families who were able to join us at our welcome picnic on 6th March. It was lovely to see the excitement of our students when our special guest Parry arrived. A huge thank you to our P and C for selling baked goodies, soft drinks and slushies at the picnic.
The NAPLAN Online assessments for Years 3 and 5 will continue throughout this week and next.
I would like to extend my thanks to Mrs. Ell and Mrs. Talevski for coordinating the assessment schedule. Our extensive technology, funded by our generous P and C, has ensured that we are well-equipped with lap tops and ready for the National Assessments.
Harmony Week is a time of cultural respect for all. By participating in Harmony Week activities, our students can learn and understand how all Australians equally belong. Our students contributed to a collaborative art project and teachers have been accessing Harmony Week lessons on Amplify, our online music and drama program.
The Pulse Alive Performance last night was spectacular.
Our First Nations students Jai and Avah had a wonderful time learning and performing a cultural dance for the audience. Mrs Ignazzi coordinated our students’ participation in the event and Mrs Millar accompanied the students at the rehearsal and performance.
Thank you to both for providing this opportunity for our students.
A parent survey about the role of our Learning Support team was completed last year and the results revealed that parents have little knowledge of the role of the LST team at Putney Public School.
Our Learning and Support team (LST) includes our Executive team, the school Counsellor Ms Tina Wang and a Learning Support Teacher. Ms Sally Hay has been relieving in this position during Term 1. The position will go to merit selection soon.
The LST collects information and gives recommendations to the teachers of students who need adjustments to access the curriculum and meet their educational goals. The team plays a key role in meeting the specific needs of children with disability and additional learning and support needs.
To support your child, the team will:
work with your child’s teachers to make sure your child’s additional learning and support needs are identified
organise the planning process, and design the supports for your child and
work with the whole school community and other professionals to improve learning for all students.
The learning and support team also assists in early intervention planning, processing and allocating resources.
Parents may meet with a member of the learning and support team or class teacher to:
discuss your child’s strengths, interests and areas for development
plan adjustments and supports and
monitor your child’s progress.
This discussion is included in a Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLSP) or Behaviour Support Plan.
The team will also be involved in the process of submitting an access request, if one is needed to apply for funding from the Department of Education.
Additionally, the learning and support team helps our Year 6 students transition to high school and discusses attendance concerns and strategies to support parents with concerns such as school refusal.
Thank you to the parents who completed the recent parents survey. The feedback helps us review our practices and we appreciate the 100 parents who took the time to complete.the survey.
Congratulations to our Zone swimming team who took part in the Ryde Zone PSSA Swimming Carnival last Monday. Thank you to Mrs Ell and Ms Foster who coordinated our entries and organised our team’s participation.
It’s hard to believe Easter is nearly here—and how much the price of chocolate has risen! I’m excited that our Year 6 students are running an Easter Egg raffle and hope I’m fortunate enough to win. Thank you for supporting our Year 6 students in their fundraising efforts to purchase a gift for the school at the end of their final year at Putney.
Mrs Brooks
Principal
Year 6 will be having their first fundraising event this term - an Easter Raffle.
The raffle will be drawn on the last day in week 10 this term and the winners will receive easter baskets full of chocolates and lollies! There are 25 prizes to be won!
Starting from Tuesday 17th March, Year 6s will be stationed outside the office area near the canteen to sell raffle tickets (this is open to students and teachers!).
Raffle ticket prices are:
1 for $2
3 for $5
(cash only)
Tickets will be sold before school from 8:45am, at recess and at lunch times from Tuesday 17th March to Tuesday 24th March.
Students in Kindergarten have been learning about the natural features of land Country and water Country in HSIE lessons and have created these wonderful artworks.
Sugar Gliders have been learning about 3D Objects in mathematics. They engaged in their 3D Shape investigation. Students worked in pairs to construct 3D objects to find out how many faces, vertices and edges they have.
On Tuesday 10th March, our Putney swimmers proudly represented the school at the Ryde Zone Swimming Carnival. All students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed a fantastic day of racing and team spirit.
We’re thrilled to announce that our 11-13 year old girls’ relay team, Samara A, Ana M, Aria G, and Melanie M, won their race and have advanced to the Sydney North level. Congratulations also to Melanie M, who was named Age Champion for her outstanding performance throughout the day.
Well done to all our swimmers for their effort and sportsmanship!
Mrs Ell and Ms Foster
Hi everyone,
It was lovely to see so many people at Parry's Picnic the week before last (and that the rain held off)! Thanks so much to everyone who supported the P&C stall and volunteered their time and energy to make it possible, raising over $1,200 for the school and our kids!
Thank you in particular to Sara, Mona, Doug, Marty, Collette, Solmaz, Adeleh, Catherine, Sandra, Eva, Samah, Hayley, Jill, Liv, Jason, Richard, Oliver, as well as Michele, Gary and all the staff that helped make it such a great evening!
In other exciting news, the P&C Executive Committee has expanded recently! Following the brief P&C meeting held on 5 March 2026, a big congratulations goes to Sara Avon (elected as a Vice President), Beah Vasquez (elected as Secretary) and Serenay Taskin, Ileana Crosby, Mel Ibrahim and Melissa Pok (all elected as Elected Members). Thank you all for volunteering your time and skills!
Don't forget to pop our upcoming P&C events in your calendar & sign-up to volunteer and help out where you can! The P&C will be running a sausage sizzle and canteen at Cross Country (at Morrison Bay Park) on Monday 30 March - we'd really appreciate some extra hands on deck, so if you love to BBQ or just want to help out, please sign-up via the link below!
