Dear Parent and Carers,
What a busy fortnight it has been!
I’d like to thank our Stage 3 teachers who supervised our campers over the 3 day camp. Experiences such as these are only viable if staff are willing to be on duty 24 hours and away from their loved ones. I really appreciate the commitment by our staff to continue organising and providing these memories for our senior students. I’d like to thank the parents also for supporting these worthwhile opportunities. For some students, it was their first stay away from home and a chance to achieve personal goals and challenges.
Last Monday, we held another successful swimming carnival, thanks largely to the excellent organisation by Mrs Ell and Ms Foster. The house and vice captains demonstrated outstanding leadership by leading house chants and coordinating the team relays, which provided an exciting finale to the day.
Congratulations to all competitors who earned house points by participating in races and giving their best effort. We encourage as many students as possible to take part and have a go in future races.
A big thank you to the parents who did a fantastic job with timekeeping.
Thank you to the parents who came along last night to meet the Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 teachers. The Stage 2 and 3 Meet the Teacher night will take place on 26th February.
Our SRE teachers returned yesterday to begin scripture classes. We thank them for volunteering and teaching our students every Wednesday. Mrs Millar is coordinating scripture this year.
Our Stage 1 to Stage 3 students have been exploring the responsibilities of the class SRC Councillor. Students who wish to nominate for this role need to demonstrate a commitment to attending meetings, actively participating in discussions, offering potential solutions, and sharing meeting outcomes with their class. Student voice is a highly valued part of our school community, appreciated by both staff and students. Nomination speeches and elections for interested candidates have been held. Congratulations to the successful candidates who will be inducted with a badge presentation at the whole school assembly on Monday 23rd February at 2:30 pm at the Koala Courts.

The Putney Press Gang continues its work this year in Stage 3 classrooms. The School News Project has been invited to take a team of Press Gang reporters to the launch event for the new Australian Children's Laureate, Andy Griffiths. Our team will have the opportunity to interview Andy before the event and conduct "vox pops" with guests on the red carpet as they arrive.
Three Stage 3 PPS reporters have been invited to take part in this exciting experience. Congratulations to the following students chosen by Press Gang teacher Meredith Heaney :
Irene H
Yash J-S

At Putney we continue to provide a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities for our students. During the coming weeks, auditions and practices will begin for: dance, drama, recorder ensemble, debating and choir. Our teachers are keen to provide these opportunities for our students, and I thank them for their willingness to support students who display potential and a passion in these areas.
Summer PSSA teams have been selected and began the competition last week. I’d like to thank the coaches for taking on this extra commitment and congratulations to our students who were selected.
Children who miss out on sport teams and/or performance groups will feel disappointment which is a natural reaction and a part of life. How children learn to handle their emotion and disappointment lays the groundwork for resilience, coping abilities, and emotional intelligence as they grow older.
I understand seeing your child struggle with disappointment can be painful. The instinct is often to protect them, shield them from failure, or quickly solve the problem. However, while this instinct stems from love, it can deny children an important learning experience. Understanding how to cope with disappointment, adapt, and move forward is a vital skill for lifelong development.
Supporting children through disappointment doesn’t mean removing it from their lives; rather, it means helping them navigate it with empathy, patience, and encouragement. By demonstrating positive reactions, providing a safe emotional environment, and teaching practical coping skills, parents can help children transform disappointments into opportunities for growth and resilience.
Don’t forget to “Save the Date” for our Welcome Parry Picnic on Friday 6th March from 5:00-7:00 pm. Hope to see you there!

Next Friday 27th February, our school will be taking part in Schools Clean Up Day. All classes will spend time throughout the day helping to clean up our school grounds and surrounding areas.
Schools Clean Up Day is part of the nationwide Clean Up Australia Day initiative, encouraging students to take responsibility for their environment and develop lifelong sustainable habits. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to show pride in our school and work together to care for our community.
Students are welcome to bring their own gloves to use on the day if they prefer. All students will thoroughly wash their hands after participating in the clean-up activities.
We look forward to seeing our students demonstrate teamwork, responsibility and care for our environment!
Stage 3 attended the Great Aussie Bush Camp from 9th-11th February and it’s safe to say that we had the best time! Students were split into 4 different activity groups where they were led by their camp instructor to accomplish activities including canoeing, high tops, archery, giant swing, team building, rock climbing and the famous mud run!
Our students were very excited to spend two nights away from home in cabins with their friends. We saw many different animals including possums, lizards and even kangaroos! Camp was definitely a rewarding experience that the students and teachers will remember.
Our Swimming Carnival was held on Monday, 16th February at the Ryde Aquatic Centre. It was a successful and exciting event, with students demonstrating great sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the day. A special thank you to our parent volunteers whose support and assistance were invaluable in making the day run smoothly. We appreciate the involvement of all staff, students, and families in helping to create such a memorable occasion!
