In 2020, Marrickville was voted 10th "Coolest Neighbourhood in the World" by Time Out in 2020. In 2022, Marrickville ranked as the second coolest neighbourhood in Australia and 33rd coolest in the world.
Marrickville is the largest suburb within the Inner West Council local government area approximately 7 km south-west of the city of Sydney, Australia.
Marrickville is 5.74 km² and is bounded by Frazer Street, the suburb of Petersham, John Street, Newington Road, Enmore Road, Juliett Street, Lynch Avenue, Lynch Lane, Edgeware Road and Bedwin Road in the north, the railway line and Richardson Crescent in the east, the Cooks River in the south, and Wardell Road, the railway line, Challis Avenue and Wardell Road in the west. The suburb lies within the Cooks River basin.
Marrickville town centre consists of two main intersecting roads - Marrickville Road and Illawarra Road. During your fieldwork investigation, you will be acquiring primary data along these roads.
