Marrickville is the largest suburb within the Inner West Council local government area approximately 7 km south-west of the city of Sydney, Australia. 

Marrickville is 5.74 km² and is bounded by Frazer Street, the suburb of Petersham, John Street, Newington Road, Enmore Road, Juliett Street, Lynch Avenue, Lynch Lane, Edgeware Road and Bedwin Road in the north, the railway line and Richardson Crescent in the east, the Cooks River in the south, and Wardell Road, the railway line, Challis Avenue and Wardell Road in the west. The suburb lies within the Cooks River basin.

Marrickville town centre consists of two main intersecting roads - Marrickville Road and Illawarra Road. During your fieldwork investigation, you will be acquiring primary data along these roads.

The culture of a place describes the characteristics of a place that give it its unique identity. These characteristics include streetscape, architecture, noise, colour, lifestyles, histories, Indigenous cultures, cultural diversity, street life, energy and vitality.
