School Counselor Survey

Fall 2021 - Due Nov. 1

ABOUT THE SURVEY

Superintendent Survey Senate Bill 8 (Re: School Counselors)

Senate Bill 8 from the 2020 Regular Session amended KRS 158.4416(3)(e) which requires that “No later than November 1, 2019, and each subsequent year, the local school district superintendent shall report to the department the number and placement of school counselors in the district. The report shall include the source of funding for each position, as well as a summary of the job duties and work undertaken by each counselor and the approximate percent of time devoted to each duty over the course of the year.”

This requirement is established in the School Safety and Resiliency Act, and superintendents must annually report to the KDE no later than November 1:

1. The number of school counselors in a district;

2. The placement of school counselors in a district;

3. Source of funding for each school counselor position;

4. A summary of the job duties for each school counselor position; and

5. The percentage of time devoted to each duty over the course of the year.

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Be sure to use Google Chrome and be logged in (the username and password you use to access your district's network, email, etc.) when filling out the collection form.

Step 2: Download the worksheet and fill in one row for every school counselor in the district. If a school counselor is assigned to multiple schools, please fill in one row per school assignment for that counselor. The worksheet asks for the district name, the school placement, the percentage of time the school counselor spends at that placement, the source of funding for the school counselor position, and the approximate percentage of time the school counselor spends on several different duties. If the counselor performs duties other than those listed, please enter them into column J and denote the percentage of time spent on those duties in column K. The total percentage in column L should equal 100% when filled out correctly.

*If you need further discussion about where to place a job duty, please seek more information using the American School Counseling Association's (ASCA) position statements.

Step 3: Start the survey collection form.

Step 4: Select your district and answer the optional question regarding Social/Emotional Learning curriculum. You will then be prompted to upload your survey worksheet and complete the form.

All districts are required to submit by Nov. 1, 2021.

IMPORTANT: Save the confirmation email you receive after you tap or click 'Submit'. The email contains a link providing access to your responses that may be updated/edited.
