Vision:

GMSS strives for excellence in providing sustainable and quality education in a conducive learning environment based on GNH values that inculcate 'Tha-Dam-Tsig Ley Gju-drey'

Mission:

1. Develop a sound GNH based policies that facilitate way forward in realizing quality education.

2. Groom each child towards being a mindful and productive citizen through conducive environment.

3. Instill and enhance the core values of  'Tha-Dam-Tsig Ley Gju-drey'.

Background:

The present Garpawoong Middle Secondary School is an offshoot of the erstwhile Dewathang LSS segregated in the beginning of 2009 academic session.‘Garpa’ literally means old traditional Bhutanese soldier and ‘woong’ means  ‘flat ground' in tshangla-kha (sharchhop-kha). Thus, the name of Garpawoong Middle Secondary School is derived from soldier ground. It is believed that the name was given by the local community after the famous battle of Diwangiri which was fought between Trongsa Penlop and British soldiers on 29th January, 1865.

It is located 22 kilometres away from the Dzongkhag Headquarter and 3.5 kilometres below the Samdrupjongkhar-Trashigang highway. The school has perhaps, one of the spacious compound in the kingdom with 18.06 acres of land. 

The school has classes ranging from VII to X with total of about 400 students in every academic  year. The first batch of Class X students produced 100% pass result and thereafter the succeeding batches topped the BCSE results in the Dzongkhag level. This is our greatest and profound achievement in the academic landscape.
