Title: the mahabharata
Author :Jawaharlal
Genre: Novel
The Mahabharata
It is difficult to date the epics. They deal with remote periods when the Aryans were still in the process of settling down and consolidating themselves in India. Evidently many authors have written them or added to them in successive periods. The Rama-yana is an epic poem with a certain unity of treatment; the Mahabharata is a vast and miscellaneous collection of ancient lore. Both must have taken shape in the pre-Buddhist period, though additions were no doubt made later.
Michelet, the French historian, writing in 1864, with special reference to the Ramayana, says: 'Whoever has done or willed too much let him drink from this deep cup a long draught of life and youth.... Everything is narrow in the west—Greece is small and I stifle; Judea is dry and I pant. Let me look towards lofty Asia and the profound East for a little while. There lies my great poem, as vast as the Indian Ocean, blessed, gilded with the sun, the book of divine harmony wherein is no dissonance. A serene peace reigns there and in the midst of conflict an infinite sweetness, a boundless fraternity, which spreads over all living things, an ocean (without bottom or bound) of love, of pity, of clemency.'
Great as the Ramayana is as an epic poem, and loved by the people, it is really the Mahabharata that is one of the outstand-ing books of the world. It is a colossal work, an encyclopaedia of tradition and legend, and political and social institutions of ancient India. For a decade or more a host of competent Indian scholars have been engaged in critically examining and collating the various available texts, with a view to publishing an autho-rized edition. Some parts have been issued by them but the work is still incomplete and is proceeding. It is interesting to note that even in these days of total and horrible war, Russian oriental scholars have produced a Russian translation of the Mahabharata.

Title: The courage to be disliked
Author: InInchiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga
Genre: Novel
The Courage To Be Disliked is a Japanese analysis of the work of 19th-century psychologist Alfred Adler, who established that happiness lies in the hands of each human individual and does not depend on past traumas. In 2016, people found conclusive evidence to prove Einstein’s theory of general relativity. For over 100 years, an entire branch of physics operated under the assumption that this idea was true. Working off of an assumption might sound risky, but science has always worked this way. Everything is a theory, waiting to be proven wrong.
Hence, the resurgence of old ideas shouldn’t surprise us. In psychology, the works of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung have dominated for a long time. But now, an opposing contemporary of theirs is resurfacing: Alfred Adler. The Japanese authors Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga have analyzed his work for decades and now present an adapted version of it, ready to serve us in our quest for happiness.
The result is The Courage To Be Disliked, an instant bestseller in Japan and now a global phenomenon, with over 3.5 million copies sold. The book tells the story of an unhappy young man, who visits a philosopher on the outskirts of his city. Throughout five conversations, the teacher helps him take control of his own life and happiness.
Here are 3 lessons this book teaches:
It’s dangerous to believe that your past determines your future.
If you focus on what’s wrong with you, you might be looking for reasons to hate yourself on purpose.
Most of what we think of as competition is just made up and hurting our happiness.
Let’s see how Adler’s ideas can help us live true to ourselves, and become happier!

Title: peaceful stillness old the silensilent
Author: lama yeshe
Genre; novel
The six teachings contained herein come from Lama Yeshe’s 1975 visit to Australia. The first three are a series of consecutive evening lectures Lama gave at Melbourne University, and the last three teachings are public lectures given in Sydney. They are all filled with love, insight, wisdom and compassion, and the question-and-answer sessions Lama loved so much are as dynamic and informative as ever.
LAMA YESHE ON BUDDHISM
"Buddhism is not just about one or two small things; it is not some tiny philosophy. Lord Buddha explained the nature of every single phenomenon in the universe."
ON MIND
"At certain times, a silent mind is very important, but 'silent' does not mean closed. The silent mind is an alert, awakened mind; a mind seeking the nature of reality."
ON MEDITATION
"Meditation is the right medicine for the uncontrolled, undisciplined mind. Meditation is the way to perfect satisfaction. The uncontrolled mind is by nature sick; dissatisfaction is a form of mental illness. What's the right antidote to that? It's knowledge-wisdom; understanding the nature of psychological phenomena; knowing how the internal world functions."

Title : a tree in the forest
Author : Ajahn similes
Genre: Novel
People have asked about my practice. How do I prepare my mind for meditation?
There is nothing special. I just keep it where it always is.
They ask, 'Then are you an arahant?'
Do I know?
I am like a tree in a forest, full of leaves, blossoms and fruit.
Birds come to eat and nest, and animals seek rest in its shade.
Yet the tree does not know itself.
It follows its own nature.
It is as it is."
"All the teachings" Ajahn Chah taught, "are merely similes and comparisons, means to help the mind see the truth. If we establish the Buddha within our mind, then we see everything, we contemplate everything, as no different from ourselves.
Many of the similes that Ajahn Chah himself used to teach came out of his vast experience of living in the forest. His practice was simply to watch, all the while being totally open and aware of everything that was happening both inside and outside himself. He would say that his practice was nothing special. He was, in his own words, like a tree in a forest, "A tree is as it is," he's say. And Ajahn Chah was as he was. But out of such "nothing specialness" came a profound understanding of himself and the world.
Ajahn Chah used to say, "The Dhamma is revealing itself in every moment, but only when the mind is quiet can we understand what it is saying, for the Dhamma teaches without words." Ajahn Chah had this uncanny ability to take that wordless Dhamma and convey its truth to his listeners in the form of a simile that was fresh, easy to follow, sometimes humorous, sometimes poetic, but always striking a place in the heart where it would jar or inspire the most: "We are like maggots; life is like a falling leaf; our mind is like rain water."
The teachings of Ajahn Chah teem with similes and comparisons like these. We thought it would be a good idea to collect them all in the form of a book as a source of inspiration for those who may want some respite from the "heat" of the world and seek some rest in the cool and abundant shade of "a tree in the forest".
Title : The guru drinks bourbon
Author: Dzongsar Jamyang khyentse
Genre: Novel
Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse is a Bhutanese lama, filmmaker, and author of the bestselling book What Makes You Not a Buddhist. He writes on the opening page:
"Guru devotion is the head, heart, blood, spine, and breath of the incredible Vajrayana, the path of Buddhist tantra. The Vajayana is not a safe stroll in the countryside. In fact, safety is probably the least of our concerns. The Vajayana's way of dealing with ego and the emotions is hazardous. The methods are sometimes even reckless. Therefore, the tantric path is the most adventurous of all Buddhist paths."
Given human nature, following a guru is not an easy thing. Khyentse says that the guru is like the horizon — a line where earth and sky seem to meet. This spiritual teacher is many things to his/her disciples or devotees: a teacher who enlightens, a preceptor, someone who leads, a master at teaching mind control, and an exemplar of the Buddhist practice.
Outsiders who tend to be skeptical of attaching themselves to a guru point to the addictions of the famous Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa. Khyentse presents a good guru checklist, emphasizing the character qualities of respected teachers such as open-minded, tolerant, learned, humble, generous, gentle, nonjudgmental, and skillful.
The Guru Drinks Bourbon presents a balanced view of gurus who, like all of us, often wrestle with their own demons and dark shadows. He reveals some of the epiphanies and transformations that have resulted from individuals' encounters with gurus
