Microorganisms have many applications in the food industry, waste degradation and management, and in the production of antibiotics, vaccines, insulin etc.

Anaerobic digestion biological process in which food waste and other organic materials are broken down by micro-organisms in the absence of light and oxygen, to produce renewable energy and a nutrient-rich biofertilizer.
