Introduction to Field Experience
The FE500 observation round will be delivered in-person at partner school sites. Observations are supported with a weekly seminar on campus. There is no evaluation for these rotation/observation-based visits. We ask that the Administration team schedule the preservice teachers to visit a variety of teaching staff each Wednesday.
Cohort groups of five PSTs will visit partner schools to engage in observation and small group activities for each scheduled Wednesday. PSTs will participate in five school site visits over the course of the ten weeks. The same designated cohort will visit your facility for two consecutive Wednesdays. Seminar Instructors will stop by the schools occasionally on Wednesdays to connect with preservice teachers and support the PSTs with reflection discussions. Preservice teachers are working to develop their discipline of noticing, and will complete a presentation on school culture based on their observation visits during their on campus seminar.
For Fall 2025, the students will be observing on the following dates:
September 10. 17, & 24
October 1, 8, 15, 22, & 29
November 5 & 19
For Spring 2026, the students will be observing on the following dates:
April (TBA)
As this is an observational visit, the preservice teachers can observe any certified teacher—not just those with permanent certification and 3 years or more of teaching experience.
