Week beginning 9th June
First let me start by saying a huge thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome back.
It has been a busy week, especially with Sports Day on Monday. It was such a shame that we didn't get to finish but at least the rain stayed away for the majority of the time.
Our learning this week has included:
alliteration - What is it? Why is it used? We spent some time creating an advert for some food that used alliteration.
angles - We have been using the terms right angle, acute angle and obtuse angle.
religious stories - We have read and watched the stories of The Crying Camel and The Rich Man and the Needle and discussed what the lesson is in each story.
Battle of the Bands - We have begun our BotB activities by forming groups and creating our band names. Much more on this next week!
I'm really good at jumping so the sack race is my favourite - Alex
I was disappointed we didn't get to do all the races. I think I would win the running race -Brodie
I liked the hockey relay. Team work makes the dream work! - Luke
I liked the caterpillar races the best. We had to concentrate really hard and stay focussed. - Sophie
Week beginning 22nd April
With the Easter break behind them, P4C have been raring to go this week!
We started our new Sound topic by exploring how we hear sounds, listening to a variety of instruments and discussing how they make their sounds. In numeracy we started learning about fractions. We learned the terms 'numerator' and 'denominator' and compared fractions that have the same denominator. In maths we have been giving directions using phrases like, 'quarter turn', 'clockwise' and 'anticlockwise'. The highlight of the week has to be our rugby session with Graham on Thursday morning. We played lots of cooperative games, learned how to throw the ball to each other and had lots of fun!
"The ball is rough. It hurts my hands!" - Alba
"I go to rugby so it was extra practise for me" - Hobbes
"I liked trying to intercept the ball" -Euan
"I play football but rugby seems good fun too!" - Amber
Much excitement in Primary 4 this week when Fred and Ginger came to stay! Every year a pair of ducks nest in the square outside the P4 classrooms and we decided (well Mrs T did!) to give them names. We will keep you posted with the progress of their nest and chicks.
Other highlights from this week include:
reading the Diagon Alley chapter of Harry Potter
reading the descriptions of the shops in Diagon alley and working with a partner to create our own.
continuing to work on our Mary, Queen of Scots portraits with Mr Connell.
creating some spring themed art work.
Have a look at our pictures and let us know what you think on Google Classroom. We'd really like to hear your thoughts.

What a lovely start to spring! This week we were really lucky to have the chance to explore the new playground toys. These toys were purchased with money raised by the PTA. The children in P4C would like to say a huge THANK YOU! Here are some of the things Mrs Thomson heard while we were playing:
Luke "They are fun to play with"
Cora "It was fun because it gave us different and new things to do"
Anna "I loved it! I can't wait to play with them at lunch! I liked that there was so much variety"
Isla" These things are so exciting!"

Euan "It helps me to make friends!"
We all have different favourites, and we are so excited for them to be out every lunchtime.
As part of our Mary, Queen of Scots topic, we have been discussing the murder of Mary's husband, Lord Darnley. We have examined the evidence and have a list of suspects. We then each chose someone we thought was guilty and held a debate. There were some very interesting, and heated, discussions!
Week beginning 3rd March
What a week! The highlight has to have been World Book Day on Thursday. We had so many children dressing up, sharing their favourite stories and some really exciting activities relating to our favourite books.
We used Adobe Express to create a WANTED poster for Mrs Thomson's favourite story villain, The Enormous Crocodile. We also used our AR books to complete a scavenger hunt for lots of text features such as alliteration and adjectives. Thank you to all the children for all their enthusiasm, excitement and hard work!
Week beginning 24th February
This week we have been focussing on athletics in PE. We have been learning the fundamental skills involved in all athletics activities. In our numeracy lessons we have been learning to divide using our multiplication and skip counting skills. Our writing lessons have been really fun because we have been using funny videos as our stimulus for writing. But the highlight of the week was winning the school Golden Boot trophy for 100% of the class having indoorm shoes. This is such an important thing for our school as it helps to keep it clean and tidy. Lots of happy faces in P4C this week!
Week beginning 17th February

Some increbible learning in P4C this week. The main highlight was our lesson on time. We have been learning to measure time. On Thursday we all braved the cold out in the playground to measure how long it took us to complete a selection of tasks. First we made an estimate and then used a stopwatch to measure the length of time in seconds. Great fun all round!
"I loved playing with the stopwatch. I've never used on in school. I learned loads!" Hobbes
Week beginning 13th January
Another busy week in P4C!
We were invited to the East Lothian Play Association's Unboxed event in the Corn Exchange. We were shown how to use the tools and then had free reign to get creative!

We are making Santa's workshop and sleigh. I am Santa and Freya is the reindeer. I am a great wrapper! - Cora

This is always the tricky part for the grown ups but sometimes us kids need some freedom to be creative!
It was noisy, it was messy but it was so much fun and we had the chance to develop so many different skills!
We have also been working in new collaborative learning teams. Since our new topic is 'Our Scotland' and we are focussing on the local area we started off by learning about some significant places in our lovely town. This is a sample of our work.
Haddington Hosue is one of the oldest bulidings in the town. It was built in the 17th Centuary. - Alex
It was built in 1771 to keep pigeons in! I used the block lettering that Mr Connal taught us in art. - Luke
Brodie and I spent ages on the drawing. Mr Connal said he really liked it and he is an artist! - Innes
It took ages to build it. It was finished in 1452. It is one of the longest churches in Scotland. I think it's really pretty. - Sophie
Week beginnig 9th January
Happy New Year! We can't wait to see what adventures 2025 brings for P4C.

Cora - "It's harder than it looks writing on the floor!"
Lewis - It's really tricky!"
Ethan H - "I wish we could do all our writing like this."
Week beginning 16th December
What a fun filled, festive fortnight we have had!
We went to see the panto, A Christmas Carol, at the Corn Exchange. For some of us it was our first time EVER seeing a pantomime and we all had a great time joining in with the singing and dancing, booing and cheering. Thank you to our class helpers, Lewis' mum and Austin's dad, for coming along with us.
Our Christmas party was so much fun. We danced The Dashing White Sergeant, The Virginia Reel and The Grand March; we played Musical Statues and Euan won (Mrs T was a bit mean and took some photos of us when we were frozen!); Pass the Parcel (Lucky's Dad's rules) was next and Leo was our lucky winner; class races and pass the ball! All so much fun! Lots of members of staff commented on the children's Christmas cheer and excellent behaviour. Outstanding :)
Week beginning 2.12.24
Christmas has arrived in 4C! We finished reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis, made our Christmas craft for the school fayre and decorated the classroom.
Last Friday we were learning about St Andrew and why he celebrated in Scotland. Mrs Thomson set us a challenge to work together to create a boat for Regulus to sail in to the town now known as St Andrews. We were all given a piece of tin foil and were told we could use lolly sticks, tape, card and glue. The boat needed to be wind powered, contain a Scotland flag and carry a Lego figure (representing Regulus).
After lots of testing and trialling the boats all floated! It was amazing to see the different designs and how each group approached the challenge.
Week beginning 25th November
As part of our Adapting to the Cold topic the children have been working in cooperative learning groups to research an animal from the polar regions. Here are just a few examples.

Sophie, Luke, Isla and Alba used their creativity skills to create a really eye catching poster to share what they had found out about the arctic fox.
