Dunbar Nursery Newsletter August 2022

The start of the new school year is here. Having said goodbye to our leavers who have started P1, we are preparing to welcome new children into the nursery, as well as welcoming back our new pre-schoolers.

Summer 2022

The children have chosen to spend a lot of time outdoors, enjoying, in particular, different kinds of water play. We explored our ideas about beaches and holidays through a variety of resources including our very own ‘small world’ beaches. In Woodlands, the children have been choosing books from a selection of stories and non-fiction about creatures that live underwater. In the fish tank, we have some new fish, as well as some babies that have been born over the summer.

Beehive Garden

In the Beehive garden, work has continued and the hope is that we will very soon have the polytunnel up and running. Our last volunteer session enabled us to lay the foundation tubes and the next step is to build the frame.

We are looking erect a new shed and have 2 taps added to IBC unit if anyone has the necessary skills and time to donate please get in touch

Our upcoming volunteer sessions are as follows:

Saturday 24th Sept 9.30am-11:30am

Saturday 29th Oct 9.30-11:30am

Saturday 19th Nov 9.30 -11:30 am

What to bring to Nursery

Could you please provide your child with a bag that will be kept at the nursery. This should contain spare clothes and indoor shoes. These should be easy for the children to change themselves to promote independence. They should also have full waterproofs and wellies as we love to be outside!

Naming Items

Please can we ask you to put names on all items coming into the nursery; scooters, bikes, lunch boxes, bags, cardigans and sweatshirts, wellies – things get lost and it is so much easier to return them if they are named.

Nursery Uniform

Nursery sweatshirts and T-shirts are available to order but are not compulsory.

Lunch/Snack

School lunches are to be ordered via your child’s Ipay account and can be done on a weekly basis, please contact the school office if you have not created an account for your child.

If your child is going to bring a packed lunch, please ensure that lunch bags are named and contain an ice pack to keep them cool. As Dunbar Primary is a nut free school any items that contain nuts will be sent home at the end of the day.

Snack payment between now and the Christmas break is £19 and is now payable on your child’s IPay account.

Suncream

Please ensure that you have completed the Suncream consent form and you apply sunscreen before coming to nursery. An additional, named bottle of sunscreen should be handed into the nursery.

Staffing Update

We would like to welcome three new Early years practitioners to Dunbar Nursery, Mrs Fraser in Woodlands, Miss McLachlan and Mr Hilsley in Seashore. We are currently awaiting a start date for Mrs Torrance who will be the new Senior Early Years Practitioner in the Harbour room.

Share our Learning

We will be offering ‘share our learning’sessions in the nursery where you can spend time with your child, meet the nursery team and see all the exciting learning opportunities the children have had.

Haven and Harbour room

Tuesday 25th October 2-3pm

Thursday 27th October 2-3pm

Castle, Woodlands and Seashore Room

Mon 31st October 2-3pm

Personal Plans

We have introduced a new personal plan format within the setting. To ensure consistency for all children we will be sending a new All ABout Me home with all returning children for you to complete and return.

Parent Helpers

We are excited to be able to welcome parent volunteers into the setting. Mums, dads, grannies or grandads are all welcome and we have a range of activities within the nursery that we would love to have support with. Please let a member of staff know if you would be interested in helping with any of the following activities:

  • Gardening

  • Baking

  • Sewing

  • Library visits

  • Parent Council

Stop Drop and Hop

It is the policy at Dunbar Primary School that we have NO BIKING or SCOOTING at any time on the paths and in the playgrounds. This is to stop any accidents and children being hurt or injured. Please make sure your children going to school, nursery or any younger brothers and sisters, come off their bikes/scooters at the school gates and the bike/scooter is pushed carefully to the bike racks. This policy is also in place at the end of Nursery/school sessions. Your help and support with this is greatly appreciated

Pick up and Drop off

A wee reminder that the Nursery times are as follows –

AM flexible drop off between 8.15 – 9am

PM Pick up times

  • 2:45-3pm

  • 4-4:15pm

  • PM Flexible pick up - 5-5:45pm

Please could you make sure that children arrive at their Nursery rooms on time so everyone can get started on activities straight away and arrange pick ups at the times above.

Please use the entrance gates at Lammermuir Crescent and Countess Road at the traffic lights.

Unwell

At this time of year there are lots of coughs, colds and sickness bugs in the school. The Nursery is a busy place with lots going on. If your child isn’t feeling well then they will recover more quickly if they can rest at home. If your child has a sickness/diarrhea bug then they MUST remain at home for 48 hours after the symptoms have stopped. If your child is absent please could you phone the main office so this can be recorded. We are legally obliged to inform the Care Inspectorate and Health Protection Scotland if we have an outbreak of a contagious illness. Parents supporting us in following the 48 hour rule will significantly reduce the probability of an outbreak occurring.

Please remember to update the school office with any changes to email, phone number and address.

If you have any questions or need to contact us, you can do so in the usual way – by contacting the school office admin team by email (admin@dunbarprimary.elcschool.org.uk) or by phoning the school (01368 863773) between 8am and 4pm. Between 4pm and 6pm please use the nursery mobile number 07977166555

Many Thanks

The Nursery Team
