Cícero Roberto Pereira is a Senior Researcher at ICS-ULisboa. His academic career began in 1994 while studying Psychology at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Brazil. In 1995, he received a competitive research scholarship from the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and joined the Political Behaviour Research Laboratory, a leading centre for political psychology in Latin America. He obtained a BA in Psychology (1998), a Master's degree in Social Psychology (2000), and a PhD in Experimental Social Psychology from ISCTE-IUL (2007), where he developed an innovative model explaining the relationship between racism and intergroup discrimination in democratic societies. He later completed his habilitation in Social Psychology (2018). His research focuses on the socio-political psychology of discrimination, including justified discrimination theory, implicit intergroup discrimination in time investment, and the social comparison process. He has published nearly 200 articles in leading international journals.
Prof. Inga Griškova-Bulanova is Head of the Centre for Applied Neurosciences and Professor at Life Sciences Centre, Vilnius University, Lithuania. She currently serves as the Head of the Lithuanian Neuroscience Association, Board Member of the International Pharmaco-EEG Society, and Board Member of the European Society for Brain Stimulation. Her research focuses on human electrophysiology and translational neuroscience, emphasizing EEG biomarkers of sensory processing, cortical network dynamics, and neuromodulation. She leads several national and international projects addressing neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders through multimodal approaches integrating EEG, fNIRS, genetics, and behavioral assessment. Prof. Griškova-Bulanova is actively engaged in European neuroscience networks, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration and capacity building in applied and clinical neuroscience.
Dr. Joana Cabral is an Assistant Professor at the Bioengineering Department and Principal Investigator at the Institute for Systems and Robotics, Instituto Superior Técnico. Her research focuses on developing biophysical and mathematical models to understand the fundamental principles that coordinate brain activity across scales, from local neural oscillations to large-scale functional connectivity. After completing her degree in Biomedical Engineering at NOVA University of Lisbon in 2007, she obtained her PhD in Computational Neuroscience in Barcelona. She then conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford (2014-2017), before returning to Portugal to join the University of Minho (2017-2025) and subsequently IST.
Professor Usha Goswami is the Director for the Centre for Neuroscience in Education, and Professor of Cognitive Developmental Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. Since her Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from the University of Oxford in 1987, her research has focused on reading development and developmental dyslexia, with special reference to rhythm and the role of the amplitude modulation structure of speech in auditory temporal processing. Usha Goswami’s research path is an outstanding example of interdisciplinarity, joining education, psychology, speech science, language acquisition and language impairments, and neuroscience. She has received many awards, including the Fellowship of The Royal Society, the Yidan Prize, the British Psychology Society Spearman Medal, and the Norman Geschwind-Rodin Prize. In 2016 and 2025, she has been awarded ERC Advanced grants on neural rhythmic processing in early language development, and on a cross-language approach to the early identification of dyslexia and developmental language disorder.
Sónia Rafael is Assistant Professor of Communication Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (ULisboa). She collaborates with the Faculty of Architecture in the Master’s programme in Interaction Design and with the ULisboa Rectorate in the PhD programme in Sustainability Sciences. She coordinates the AI for UX course at the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Academy and is an integrated researcher at ITI / LARSyS, Instituto Superior Técnico. Her work encompasses Communication Design, Interaction Design, and New Media, with a particular focus on sustainability and ethics. Alongside her academic activities, she has professional experience in communication design, interaction design, and creative direction in national and international studios and companies.
