About
Who we are
The Mind-Brain College articulates and enhances the scientific and technological performance of ULisboa by stimulating synergies and integrating knowledge from multiple disciplines, including biology, medicine, psychology, linguistics, philosophy, physics, mathematics, and computer science. Through interdisciplinarity, students and researchers tackle complex questions about the brain’s structure, function, development and behaviour.
The Mind-Brain College brings together students and researchers from 9 Schools of ULisboa. The schools are engaged in joint Doctoral Programs that encourage interdisciplinary research, privilege inter-institutional supervision, and promote sharing of resources, crucial for the development of innovative research projects. This collaborative approach allows to deepen the social impact of our research in areas as diverse as health and wellbeing, lifespan trajectories from infancy to old age, natural and artificial cognition, individual and social changes.
How we started
In 2014, the Mind-Brain College was created, responding to the challenge of bridging knowledge developed at ULisboa. On March 17 of 2015, ULisboa officially launched the Mind-Brain and the Food, Farming and Forestry (3F) Colleges, the first two Colleges of ULisboa. The ceremony was held at Salão Nobre da Reitoria and the then director of the Mind-Brain College, Ana Sebastião, made the public presentation.
Mission
The Mind-Brain College aims to promote the interaction between scientific, technical and formative valences to further understand the brain, mind and cognition. Another main goal is to communicate with the society at large about the scientific research conducted at ULisboa, raising public awareness and interest, informing public policy, and engaging with diverse communities to address societal problems related to the mind and brain.
The Mind-Brain College has the following specific goals:
Potentiate the creation and development of joint doctoral programs.
Increase potential of ULisboa, through a network articulation of human, scientific and organizational resources.
Consolidate a reference role of ULisboa in the mind-brain fields, increasing a cluster of applications in relevant social areas as health, education, child development, ageing, managing of crisis and socials movements, among others.
Promote ULisboa as a national leader and privileged interlocutor to international partnerships.
Increase competitiveness and visibility of ULisboa, potentiating partnerships with technological innovation systems and knowledge transfer.
