Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
As we move further into February, we have several important events and opportunities coming up in our school community.
Upcoming Dates:
February 24 – We are pleased to welcome representatives from NorQuest College who will be presenting to our Grade 11 and 12 students about post-secondary pathways and program opportunities. This is a valuable opportunity for students as they consider their plans beyond high school.
February 25 – Pink Shirt Day. We encourage everyone to wear pink as we stand together in promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect within our school and community.
February 25 – Our Junior High students will also be participating in their Outdoor Education Ice Fishing Trip. We hope students enjoy this unique hands-on learning experience and the opportunity to build skills and community outdoors.
February 26 – High school students interested in medical-related careers will be attending a field trip with Covenant Health. Experiences like this provide meaningful exposure to potential career pathways and help students make informed decisions about their futures.
In addition to these events, we continue to offer post-secondary and career presentations and field trips to help students explore their interests and plan for life after graduation. We appreciate the staff who organize these opportunities and the community partners who support our students’ learning.
I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our Parent Council for their continued support through the Krispy Kreme fundraiser. Your efforts directly benefit our students and enhance the opportunities we are able to provide. We are grateful for your ongoing commitment to our school.
Finally, congratulations and thank you to Mrs. VanDerHoek and the many volunteers who supported our senior high curling teams. Our students represented our school with pride and sportsmanship while competing and hosting the Zone Championship. We are proud of how our teams conducted themselves both on and off the ice.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community.
Sincerely,
Thank You for a Delicious Start to the School Year!
Redwater School would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Pembina Pipeline, Redwater Town Council, Breakfast Club of Canada, and all the amazing volunteers who helped cook and serve pancakes at our Welcome Back Breakfast.
Thanks to the generous support of these organizations and community members, our students were able to start their day with full stomachs and big smiles. Programs like these truly make a difference — helping students begin their learning day feeling nourished, supported, and ready to succeed.
We’re also excited to share that, with continued support from Breakfast Club of Canada, Redwater School will be offering a daily grab-and-go breakfast/snack for students each morning. It's one more way we’re working together to support student wellness and learning.
Thank you again to everyone who helped make this possible!

Sturgeon Public Schools provides safe, dependable and efficient transportation for students. We operate 70 yellow school buses and transport over 2,750 students to and from school each day.
As colder weather approaches, families are reminded of Policy 320: Inclement Weather, which outlines shared responsibilities among the Board, staff, school bus operators, and parents/guardians to ensure student safety during hazardous weather conditions. The policy emphasizes that while schools remain open, the final decision to send children to school or the bus stop rests with parents/guardians. Bus services may be suspended under specific conditions, such as temperatures reaching -40°C, poor visibility, or hazardous road conditions. Families will be notified of any cancellations or alterations through local media, the Division website, and social media. Parents are also reminded to ensure their children are dressed in weather-appropriate clothing. This policy, shared annually in school newsletters, underscores the Division’s commitment to student safety during the winter months.

Volunteer Guidelines
We are grateful for the contributions of our volunteers who play a vital role in our school programs. To ensure a safe and supportive environment, all volunteers must complete the annual SPS Volunteer Guidelines and Confidentiality Agreement and adhere to confidentiality standards in line with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP). Additionally, roles involving sole supervision, such as field trips or coaching, require a criminal record check and vulnerable sector verification, renewed every three years.
The annual SPS Volunteer Guidelines and Confidentiality Agreement will be available for parents to complete through PowerSchool, where you normally complete permission forms. Volunteering is a privilege managed by the school Principal, who ensures that all volunteer work supports school staff efforts. We value your dedication and commitment to our students, our schools and our communities and look forward to continuing to welcome you into our schools.
For further details, please find the updated Administrative Procedure 315: Volunteers and its new exhibit - SPS Volunteer Guidelines and Confidentiality Agreement on our website
