For the 2026/2027 school year, Sturgeon Public School Division will be updating our achievement scale to more closely align with outcomes-based assessment and reporting practices. Please watch your email inboxes as we progress through the 2026/2027 school year for updates.
What is Assessment?
Assessment is the process of gathering information about what a student knows, understands, and is able to demonstrate in relation to the Alberta curriculum or a student’s Individualized Program Plan (IPP).
Teachers use observations, conversations, student work, classroom activities, and ongoing feedback to monitor progress and guide instruction. Assessment is ongoing and is intended to support learning, not simply measure it.
What Will PowerSchool Look Like?
Families will continue to see essential skills and learning outcomes reported in PowerSchool rather than individual assignments being averaged together.
Please keep in mind:
The outcomes and essential skills listed for your child’s grade level will remain consistent throughout the year.
Achievement levels represent your child’s current progress toward the year-end learning outcomes
Students may move between levels as their understanding develops throughout the year
Report cards will continue to communicate student progress in relation to learning outcomes
The Spring 50/50 fundraiser is over $1000. The draw will be made on June 11th at the Family Carnival.
After more than 10 years of dedicated service to Morinville Public School as both a teacher and administrator, Kristen Moltzan will be leaving Morinville Public School to serve as Vice Principal at Sturgeon Heights School. Throughout her time at MPS, Ms. Moltzan has made a lasting and meaningful impact on our school community through her unwavering commitment to student success, her support of families, and the care and leadership she has shown to both students and staff.
We are incredibly grateful for the many contributions she has made to our school over the years and wish her continued success and fulfillment in this next chapter of her leadership journey.
For the 2026/2027 school year, Caelie Landry will continue in her role as Vice Principal, and I will continue to serve as Principal. Together, we remain committed to fostering a supportive, caring, and engaging learning environment for all students and families.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community.

Volunteer Guidelines Form
We are grateful for the contributions of our volunteers who play a vital role in our school programs. To ensure a safe and supportive environment, all volunteers must complete the annual SPS Volunteer Guidelines and Confidentiality Agreement and adhere to confidentiality standards in line with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP)
The annual SPS Volunteer Guidelines and Confidentiality Agreement will be available for parents to complete through PowerSchool, where you normally complete permission forms. Volunteering is a privilege managed by the school Principal, who ensures that all volunteer work supports school staff efforts. We value your dedication and commitment to our students, our schools and our communities and look forward to continuing to welcome you into our schools.
Volunteers must also submit a Criminal Record Check. The Criminal Record Check is kept on site for 3 years. Volunteers can request a letter from the school to take to the RCMP station so that the Criminal Record check is free.
For further details, please find the updated Administrative Procedure 315: Volunteers and its new exhibit - SPS Volunteer Guidelines and Confidentiality Agreement on our website.
Thank you for making a difference!

School Council and Parent Fundraising Association
NEXT MEETING:
Monday, June 8th at 6:00 pm
Join in person or online
We are desperately seeking parent volunteers to help with the Parent Fundraising Association. We would love to recruit at least one parent in each grade group from Pre-K - Grade 4.
Last year, we did not have a Parent Fundraising Association, and we would like to resume operating to help with playground fundraising initiatives.
School Council Meetings are held once per month. Attending these meetings is an opportunity to hear school updates, consult with the school administration, and offer advice to the School Division.
For more information, please call the school or email:
Our school is grateful for the monthly monetary donation from Midstream Support Society. This generous donation helps hungry students start the school day with a nutritious breakfast, lunch or snacks.
Focused and Effective Communication
Sturgeon Public Schools believes that the quickest and most effective way to resolve a concern regarding your child is to address it at the most direct level. If you have a concern, please first talk to the classroom teacher for assistance.
Toys, Pokemon Cards and Hockey Cards
We kindly ask that students keep toys at home. We've noticed that when students bring toys to school, they can become upset if the toys get lost or misplaced. Keeping toys at home helps avoid these situations and ensures that everyone can focus on their school activities. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
