January 2026
Dear Camilla Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable holiday break. January is a great time to re-establish routines and settle back into learning.
Creating a safe, welcoming, and respectful school environment continues to be a priority at Camilla. Staff work intentionally to build positive relationships with students, reinforce expectations, and support student well-being. When students feel connected and cared for, they are better able to engage in learning and take positive risks.
As the winter weather continues, we ask families to please ensure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Even on colder days, spending time outside is important for fresh air and movement, and proper winter clothing helps keep students comfortable and safe.
Parental involvement can look different for every family, and all forms of involvement are valued. Staying informed, supporting routines and attendance, and having conversations about school at home all contribute to student success. We truly appreciate the partnership we share with Camilla families and encourage you to reach out if you ever have questions.
We would also like to wish the best of luck to our Camilla runners as they prepare for their upcoming races. We are proud of their dedication and commitment and look forward to cheering them on.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to a positive and productive remainder of the school year.
Warm regards,
Kevin Elias
Principal, Camilla School

Raising children in a digital world can be challenging. The Unplugged Pledge helps families work together to support healthy technology habits and student well-being.
1. Mental Health
Early smartphone use is linked to increased anxiety and social pressure. Delaying smartphones helps students grow with fewer digital stresses and more emotional support.
2. Better Focus & Sleep
Without constant notifications, children sleep better and focus more—supporting learning, mood, and daily routines at home and at school.
3. Real Connection
Phones can distract from friendships and family time. Unplugging encourages in-person play, meaningful conversations, and stronger relationships.
4. Community Support
When five families in a grade pledge together, Unplugged connects them. Shared expectations make healthy habits easier to maintain.
5. A Positive Culture Shift
Each pledge helps build a school-wide culture that prioritizes balance, well-being, and responsible technology use.

At Camilla School, we are committed to fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments for all students. One of the key tools we use to achieve this is the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) system. TCIS is a trauma-informed, division-wide framework designed to help staff prevent crises, de-escalate potential conflicts, and support students in developing healthy emotional regulation and coping skills. This system not only enhances safety and well-being but also promotes stronger relationships between students, staff, and families.
