The Town of Bon Accord is hosting a Canada Day Coloring Contest! If your child would like to participate, please have them visit the office to pick up a contest sheet. Entries must be returned to the office by June 19.
Good luck to everyone participating, we canāt wait to see all the wonderful artwork coming our way!
We were delighted to welcome Alanna Hnatiw to speak with our Grade 3 and 4 students on Monday! Mayor Hnatiw shared information about Sturgeon County and spoke about what makes it such a wonderful place to live, work, and grow. Students enjoyed learning about the community, local leadership, and the important role the County plays in supporting residents.
Our students were especially engaged during the question-and-answer session, where Mayor Hnatiw thoughtfully answered many excellent student questions. To finish the visit, she delighted everyone by reading a story to the children, making the experience both educational and memorable.
We sincerely thank Mayor Hnatiw for taking the time to visit our school and inspire our students!
During Mental Health Week, students enthusiastically participated in our at home Connection BINGO Challenge, encouraging everyone to build positive connections, spread kindness, and support one another throughout the week. It was wonderful to see our school community come together and complete the challenge in support of mental health and well-being!
Congratulations to our Connection BINGO draw winners, who were rewarded with a delicious Smile Cookie as a special treat. Thank you to everyone who participated, demonstrated kindness, and helped make Mental Health Week such a meaningful and positive experience. Your support and involvement truly helped strengthen the sense of connection within our school community!

Raising children in a digital world can be challenging. The Unplugged Pledge helps families work together to support healthy technology habits and student well-being.
1. Mental Health
Early smartphone use is linked to increased anxiety and social pressure. Delaying smartphones helps students grow with fewer digital stresses and more emotional support.
2. Better Focus & Sleep
Without constant notifications, children sleep better and focus moreāsupporting learning, mood, and daily routines at home and at school.
3. Real Connection
Phones can distract from friendships and family time. Unplugging encourages in-person play, meaningful conversations, and stronger relationships.
4. Community Support
When five families in a grade pledge together, Unplugged connects them. Shared expectations make healthy habits easier to maintain.
5. A Positive Culture Shift
Each pledge helps build a school-wide culture that prioritizes balance, well-being, and responsible technology use.

May Message From The Principal
Dear BACS Families,
As we welcome the month of May, we find ourselves surrounded by the energy and promise of spring. The days are longer, the weather is brighter, and our school community continues to grow and thrive together. This is a wonderful time of year to reflect on how far weāve come and to look ahead with excitement to all that is still to come.
In May, we are also focusing on the important theme of citizenship. At our school, being a good citizen means showing kindness, respect, and responsibility each and every day. Itās about including others, helping when we can, and taking pride in our school and community. Even the smallest actionsāholding a door, sharing a smile, or using kind wordsāhelp make our school a welcoming place for everyone.
Our students continue to demonstrate what it means to be thoughtful and caring citizens, both in and out of the classroom. I am proud of the way they support one another, take ownership of their learning, and contribute positively to our school environment. We only have to look to recent events where our students were excellent ambassadors for our school. Sturgeon Night of Music and STEAM Games gave our kids a chance to shine but to also showcase what amazing citizens they are. Families, thank you for reinforcing these values at home and for your ongoing partnership in nurturing strong, compassionate young people.
As we move through this busy and joyful month, filled with learning, activities, and special events, I encourage everyone to take time to appreciate the connections we share. Together, we are building not only knowledge, but also character and community.
Wishing you all a wonderful May!
Warm regards,
Matt Ohm, Principal
Bon Accord Community School
We continue to remind our community members that morning drop off and afternoon pick up can be quite hectic in our bus lane and parking lot. With this reminder, we encourage parents and students to not walk between the buses at these times as bus operators may not see the foot traffic clearly.Ā We also remind those that use our parking lot that there is an entrance and an exit. School administration will work with Sturgeon Public School Divison's Facilities team to support the parking lot with better signage to support traffic flow.
If your child will be absent from school, you may report that absence by emailing baccord@sturgeon.ab.ca or calling the school at 780-921-3559, if your call goes to voicemail please leave a message. The messages are checked frequently.Ā
Please ensure you send your child to school in proper wear for the weather with extra clothes, including socks and underwear. Be sure to label all your child's outerwear, including their shoes. We have many BACS Bears with the same shoes and want to avoid any mix-ups. As the weather is much hotter please be mindful of sending your child to school with sunscreen already applied, a hat and water bottle.

Be sure to check SPS Bus Status for the most up-to-date information on the status of bus routes.Ā

TCIS atĀ
At Bon Accord Community School, we are committed to fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments for all students. One of the key tools we use to achieve this is the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) system. TCIS is a trauma-informed, division-wide framework designed to help staff prevent crises, de-escalate potential conflicts, and support students in developing healthy emotional regulation and coping skills. This system not only enhances safety and well-being but also promotes stronger relationships between students, staff, and families.Ā
