Sturgeon Public Schools Survey: Approved in Principle 2027/2028 School Year Calendar
The 2027/2028 school year calendar was approved in principle by the Board of Trustees at the September 24, 2025, Public Board meeting. We value your input and are asking for your feedback on the 2027/2028 calendar by December 19, 2025 by filling out this survey. Â
đź’™ Everyone a Learner, Everyone a Leader đź’™
Our 2/3R class wrapped up their throwing unit in gym with a fun and creative challenge - designing their very own games for our Grade 1 friends! Each group created a game with a catchy title, simple rules, and Grade 1 friendly skills that could be explained quickly and played easily.
The 1G students were fantastic sports as they rotated through the games, with throwing at targets and hopping over hurdles being clear favourites. The trickiest skill? Batting a ball off a tee!
This buddy activity gave 2/3R the chance to be creative, practice leadership, and learn that teaching others can be challenging but also incredibly fun and rewarding. What a great example of learning together!Â
’Twas the day before Christmas break, and wow was the school buzzing!  🎉
Instead of counting down the minutes, our students hit the dance floor for a schoolwide dance party! The gym was filled with music, laughter, and nonstop moves as kids celebrated the start of Christmas break in the best way possible... dancing it out together.
And the festive fun didn’t stop there! Throughout the week, students wrapped up each day by joyfully singing Christmas carols together, filling the halls with holiday cheer. Smiles everywhere, energy through the roof, and memories made that will last well past the holidays!
Why it works:
It’s simple, screen-free, active, and encourages curiosity and connection — both with each other and with our creative imaginations!
What to do:
Gather what you might need! Look for items like:
Recyclable Materials
Tape or glue
Scissors (with adult help, perhaps)
Markers, crayons or stickers for decorations
Choose a Challenge Theme: pick one idea together or draw one from a hat! Examples could include:
build a bridge that you can drive toy cars over
design a new playground
build a vehicle that can roll
create a dream house or castle
Plan It Out: spend a few minutes discussing your design ideas before you start building.
Build and Test!: work together to bring your creation to life! Once it's done, test it out -- see if it can stand on it's own, hold an item or do what you planned.
Reflect and Share: talk about the experience. What was enjoyable? What would you different next time?
Message From The Principal
Dear BACS Families,
As we enter the month of December, our school is filled with excitement, gratitude, and a wonderful sense of community. This time of year gives us many opportunities to reflect on how much our students have grown—academically, socially, and emotionally—since the start of the school year. It is simply AWESOME to watch their curiosity, kindness, and confidence flourish each day. As a staff here at BACS, we love spending our day with your kids!
November was a whirlwind of activity from a respectful Remembrance Day ceremony to a fun, community pancake breakfast. In between, we had field trips, Parent Teacher Interviews and Book Fairs. Classes had the benefit of participating in Metis art lessons and despite the drop in temperature, everyone appears to be excited with the prospect of snow!
As we look ahead, our students are eagerly practicing for our school Christmas Concert. Classrooms are buzzing with winter-themed stories, hands-on projects, and collaborative work that helps students understand the importance of teamwork and empathy. We may even have opportunities to go carolling!Â
With winter break right around the corner, I encourage families to enjoy quality time together! Continue to read with your children, and celebrate the small moments that make this season special. Thank you for your continued partnership and support—you help make our school a warm and welcoming place for every child.
Wishing all of our students and families a joyful December and a peaceful, restorative break.
Warmly,
Matt Ohm, Principal
Bon Accord Community School
We continue to remind our community members that morning drop off and afternoon pick up can be quite hectic in our bus lane and parking lot. With this reminder, we encourage parents and students to not walk between the buses at these times as bus operators may not see the foot traffic clearly. We also remind those that use our parking lot that there is an entrance and an exit. School administration will work with Sturgeon Public School Divison's Facilities team to support the parking lot with better signage to support traffic flow.
If your child will be absent from school, you may report that absence by emailing baccord@sturgeon.ab.ca or calling the school at 780-921-3559, if your call goes to voicemail please leave a message. The messages are checked frequently.Â
Please ensure you send your child to school in proper wear for the weather with extra clothes, including socks and underwear. Be sure to label all your child's outerwear, including their shoes. We have many BACS Bears with the same shoes and want to avoid any mix-ups. As the weather is much hotter please be mindful of sending your child to school with sunscreen already applied, a hat and water bottle.

Be sure to check SPS Bus Status for the most up-to-date information on the status of bus routes.Â

TCIS atÂ
At Bon Accord Community School, we are committed to fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments for all students. One of the key tools we use to achieve this is the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) system. TCIS is a trauma-informed, division-wide framework designed to help staff prevent crises, de-escalate potential conflicts, and support students in developing healthy emotional regulation and coping skills. This system not only enhances safety and well-being but also promotes stronger relationships between students, staff, and families.Â
