Stay Informed
More details and regular updates will be sent via email, and posted on our Division website.
Please see the FAQ document for answers to common questions.
Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this difficult situation.
Why it works:
It’s simple, screen-free, active, and encourages curiosity and connection — both with each other and with the outdoors.
What to do:
Plan a visit to a local park, trail, or even your backyard.
Create a simple scavenger hunt list with items like:
A smooth rock
Something red
A bird sound
A leaf bigger than your hand
A stick shaped like a letter
Bring a basket or bag to collect items (if allowed).
Pack a picnic lunch or snacks — maybe even a favorite homemade treat.
Add a twist: After the hunt, take turns sharing stories or making up silly names for the items you found!
Bonus idea:
Bring a small notebook and crayons to draw what you saw or write about your adventure when you get home.

October Message From The Principal
Dear BACS Families,
As we step into October, I want to take a moment to reflect on what a fantastic start to the school year we've had. September was filled with energy, excitement, and a strong sense of community as students, staff, and families came together to launch another year of learning and growth. It was truly heartwarming to see our hallways buzzing with curiosity, laughter, and the joyful sound of students reconnecting with friends and engaging in new learning experiences.
Our staff has worked diligently to create welcoming and inclusive classrooms where all students feel safe, supported, and inspired. From the very first day, we’ve seen students settling into routines, embracing challenges, and demonstrating a strong commitment to their learning. We also had opportunities to come together as a larger group, from our first school assembly to our Terry Fox Run, which showcased our new AMAZING BACS blue shirts! We have kicked off a new house league program which will get officially underway in the coming weeks. Students can expect to work together in cross-graded activities that will support not only academic outcomes, but foster strong ties and connections to the school community.
As we move into October, we look forward to continue building on this strong foundation. This month promises to be full of meaningful learning, engaging activities, and exciting opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Whether it's hands-on projects, special events, or the continued development of important academic and social-emotional skills, we are committed to making each day count.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are proud of the positive momentum we’ve created together and are excited for all that lies ahead.
Warm regards,
Matt Ohm, Principal
Bon Accord Community School
Update: Terry Fox Run
We are so happy to announce that our students fundraised over $1300 for this year's Terry Fox Run! Our students, staff and community members were outside on Friday afternoon to honour Terry's legacy. Despite the windy conditions, everyone participated with a huge smile on their face and all enjoyed a tasty freezie for a job well done!
We want to thank our wonderful parent volunteers and the RCMP for coming out and supporting our school with the event. THANK YOU!
On Orange Shirt Day, we wear orange to honor and remember Indigenous children who were taken from their families and sent to residential schools. Many of these children were not treated with kindness or respect, and some never came home.
Orange Shirt Day helps us learn about the past so that we can help make the future better. It’s a day to show that Every Child Matters – that every child deserves to feel safe, loved, and proud of who they are.
By wearing orange and learning together, we show that we care, we listen, and we stand up for fairness and kindness for everyone.
Our brand new school shirts arrived this past week and they were debuted on Friday afternoon at a quick school assembly prior to the Terry Fox Run. Both students and staff were excited with the new apparel and we cannot wait to showcase our BACS Blue during field trips, class outings and school spirit days throughout the year!
A massive thank you goes out to Rustic Country Designs for putting this order together for us so quickly. We were happy to work together with local business to support this venture. Another big shout out goes to our wonderful PSS, as they made this opportunity a reality with their allocation of fundraising dollars.
It really goes to show that we are a community school! We LOVE the support!
As September comes to a close, we are reminding our community members that morning drop off and afternoon pick up can be quite hectic in our bus lane and parking lot. With this reminder, we encourage parents and students to not walk between the buses at these times as bus operators may not see the foot traffic clearly. We also remind those that use our parking lot that there is an entrance and an exit. School administration will work with Sturgeon Public School Divison's Facilities team to support the parking lot with better signage to support traffic flow.
If your child will be absent from school, you may report that absence by emailing baccord@sturgeon.ab.ca or calling the school at 780-921-3559, if your call goes to voicemail please leave a message. The messages are checked frequently.
Please ensure you send your child to school in proper wear for the weather with extra clothes, including socks and underwear. Be sure to label all your child's outerwear, including their shoes. We have many BACS Bears with the same shoes and want to avoid any mix-ups. As the weather is much hotter please be mindful of sending your child to school with sunscreen already applied, a hat and water bottle.

At Bon Accord Community School, we are committed to fostering safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments for all students. One of the key tools we use to achieve this is the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) system. TCIS is a trauma-informed, division-wide framework designed to help staff prevent crises, de-escalate potential conflicts, and support students in developing healthy emotional regulation and coping skills. This system not only enhances safety and well-being but also promotes stronger relationships between students, staff, and families.
