Our Final Report is finally finalised!
Outstanding Science Mission was awarded to µCan from Finland. According to the jury: “High scientific interest, very well mastered by the team throughout preparation, flight and post-mission analysis. Excellent scientific method and approach.”

At 11 a.m. our CanSat faced an unexpected challenge, as the house of a neighbour was on fire. Luckily, no humans were hurt. The fire is now under control (at 6 p.m.), didn't spread to our house and our electronics seem to have survived.

Happy Easter!
<-- our very own CanSat egg :)
First draft ready. It was both easier and more difficult than I had expected to draw a circuit diagram of our CanSat. Fun to start learning how to use KiCad!
Everything starts from...

Working on a new improved design of our PCB. By the way, yesterday we had a live interview with YLE Vega and both YLE and HBL have published a new article about our success in the national competition. A third article for Kvarken Space's website is on its way.
Today we were live at YLE Vega!
Here is a short text about us on YLE: https://svenska.yle.fi/a/7-10031939
HBL's last article about us: https://www.hbl.fi/artikel/fef2bc93-d926-4820-bb18-c38e565470ea
We won the Finnish CanSat competition!!! Great job everyone who participated at the competion. All missions went really well. Thanks to the organisers, jury, teachers, participating students, sponsers and everyone else who attended the competion in Vaasa. The last four days have been fun and stressful, but also very educative. We hope we will all meet again at some occasion.
Next up the European final in June. We're all really excited about getting to further improve and launch the CanSat, as well as to meet all the other teams participating at the European compention.
The launch was yesterday. We managed to fit all our componements inside the cansat-can though it was really narrow.

Last month we've had an interview with both HBL and YLE!
Fun fact about our parachute testing: we trew a stone down from the balcony (see parachute testing on IG) and the formula y = 1/2*g*t^2, where y is the height, g the gravitional acceleration and t the time it takes for the stone to fall down and the speed of sound, to calculate from which height we threw the parachute down.
There were several problems with the muon detector. Once we had finally found a way of replacing the C-60035 SiPM as it wasn’t possible to receive it before next autumn due to the current lack of semiconductors and we had solved all the encountered new issues with the muon PCB, it turned out that the connection between the muon detector and the main Arduino Nano didn’t function the way we thought it would. Therefore, we tried everything from an I2C connection to a digital pin connection, resulting in a solution using the analog pin A0.
Furthermore, on the PCB we had received from the scientists in Japan the connections were in the wrong spot, resulting in the two cathodes of the SiPM being connected to the detector instead of one anode and one cathode. We tried to connect the anode and cathode with the help of two thin metal wires instead but unfortunately the pins on the SiPM are so small that these broke because of too high temperature and over-machinating. We’re currently trying to find a solution with our extra SIPM. Otherwise, we’ve troubleshooted all possible problems by checking the voltage and current from all the test points.
Today it's the International Women and Girls in Science Day! We've celebrated by populating our PCB for the muon detector.
Unfortunately we haven't had time to update the blog yet.
