Mrs. Hammon was born in California and grew up in Washington State. She began studying violin in 4th grade and continued playing through college. In junior high school she added choir to her daily studies in music. She attended high school in Tacoma WA. Her senior year, her junior high choir director, Dale Leggett, opened the music department at Foss High School and she high-tailed it over there, becoming part of the first class to graduate from Foss in 1974. Her love of music led her to pursue a career in Music Education, studying first at Highline Community College in Des Moines WA where she received her AA degree in 1976, and continuing on at Central Washington State University in Ellensburg, WA where she received her BA in music education with endorsements in K-12 music (band & choir) in 1978. Over her 26 years of teaching Mrs. Hammon has never stopped pursuing opportunities to learn and grow. In 2000 she received her Washington state endorsement in K-8 General Education. She also holds certificates in Kodaly Education Levels 1 & 2 through The University of Oklahoma.
Mrs. Hammon's husband, Don, is a regular volunteer in Evergreen's Wildwoods Project. Together they have 3 children who are grown and pursuing careers of their own. Currently they share their home with 5 dogs, a cat, and 2 bearded dragons.
She enjoys cooking, gardening, reading, and most of all, TRAVELING! Regular trips to Upstate New York and Bend, Oregon allow her to spend time with her children who have moved away from the family home.
