Dear Parents,
Welcome to First Grade! I am very excited to have you as parents in my classroom. I believe that first grade is based on a teacher/student/parent partnership. Together, we will get the children set into routines and schedules, teaching the children rules and consequences and enriching their brains with lots of new information. I am looking forward to growing with your child this year! I hope that the information in this letter will help you understand the First Grade expectations.
Home Folders – Home Folders are where all important papers coming home or coming to school will be placed. Please check this GREEN folder EACH night. It is VERY important that your child has his/her Home Folder at school each day!
Homework – Sit back, relax and enjoy family time in the evening. I do not send homework home. I believe that children need to play, explore, eat dinner as a family, have conversations and enjoy reading for fun when they get home from school. We will work hard during the school day, to eliminate the need for work to be done at home.

School Attendance – Your child’s regular attendance is critical for school success. Please make school a priority for your child. Many learning activities are based on whole group learning and this type of learning is difficult to make up at home. However, if your child needs to miss school due to illness please call the morning that your child is absent from school. (419-272-3213)
Birthdays – If your child’s birthday is during the school year, you are welcome to send a treat into school with your child. If your child is going to be bringing in a treat, please write a note the day before so that I can plan our schedule appropriately. The treats need to be self-contained,pre-packed, store bought treats.
Communication – I will communicate with you through notes, phone calls, Facebook posts, grade cards and parent-teacher conferences. If you at any time have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me through notes, email or a phone call. If you call during the school day, please leave a message on my voicemail and I will return your call as soon as possible. Please keep in mind, phone calls will be placed at 3:10pm, due to being out of our classroom during Allied Arts times this year.
