ECS Chorus
At ECS we have Jr. Chorus (5th- 8th Grade), and Sr. Chorus (9th-12th Grade). Students have choral rehearsals every other day. Within the vocal music program, students focus on the following:
1. Technical Proficiency
Develop proper vocal technique, including breath support, posture, tone production, and vocal health.
Improve pitch accuracy and intonation through regular vocal exercises and ear training.
Expand vocal range and flexibility through progressive vocal warm-ups and repertoire.
2. Musical Literacy
Read and interpret basic to advanced sheet music, including rhythm, melody, dynamics, and articulation.
Understand and apply key musical terminology and symbols in vocal performance.
Sight-sing simple to intermediate melodies with accuracy and confidence.
3. Expression & Performance
Interpret songs with appropriate emotion, phrasing, and stylistic elements.
Gain confidence in solo and ensemble singing in both live and recorded performance settings.
Develop stage presence, audience engagement, and effective performance habits.
4. Repertoire Development
Explore a wide range of vocal repertoire across genres (classical, pop, musical theatre, jazz, etc.).
Learn to select appropriate pieces that showcase vocal strengths and align with personal goals.
Understand the historical and cultural context of selected repertoire.
5. Aural Skills & Musicianship
Improve listening skills to identify intervals, chord progressions, and harmonies.
Blend and balance within ensembles through attentive listening and vocal adjustment.
Sing harmonies and simple parts within duets, trios, or choral settings.
6. Creative Growth
Foster individual artistry through improvisation, vocal styling, and original interpretation.
Encourage exploration of songwriting or arranging for voice (optional/advanced).
Cultivate self-expression and creativity through vocal performance.
7. Goal Setting & Self-Evaluation
Set personal vocal goals and track progress through practice logs and performance reviews.
Learn to give and receive constructive feedback to support growth.
Develop independence in vocal practice and responsibility for continued improvement.
