I am an academic emergency physician at the University Health Network, one of Canada's largest teaching and research hospital networks.
I am also the Medical Director of the Myrna Daniels Seniors Emergency Medicine Centre at UHN, the world's largest comprehensive program focused on care of older ED patients. Our work is supported by a $52 million gift from the John and Myrna Daniels Foundation, the largest charitable gift to any emergency department in Canadian history.
Mostly, though, I practice nocturnal emergency medicine as an attending at Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital, the latter being ranked the 3rd best hospital in the world in 2024 by Newsweek.

What I care about
Care of older adults is one of the most critical ethical and public policy issues of our time. The way we do it now is undignified, costly, irrational, and unsustainable. If we do it better, we can build a society that is sustainable in every sense, and works for people of all ages. I am passionate about helping older adults because I am passionate about helping everyone.
I am also deeply committed to advocacy for gender diverse people, both inside and outside of the health care system.
Where I learned what I know
I completed my enhanced skills training in emergency medicine at McMaster University, where I was Lead Resident, preceded by a residency in family medicine at Sinai Health System in the University of Toronto. My MD is from McMaster University.
I also hold a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School, as well as a Masters of Philosophy in political theory from the University of Oxford, where I was a Rhodes Scholar.
What I used to do
Before medical school, I was a Senior Consultant in KPMG's strategy practice, focusing on health care and the public sector.
I am a very occasional runner, a voracious consumer of current events podcasts, and an avid reader of nonfiction about the Cold War, espionage, and a bunch of other improbable topics.
