VOCABULARY

Vocabulary plays a fundamental role in the reading process and is critical to reading comprehension. Children learn the meanings of most words indirectly, through everyday experiences with oral and written language. Other words are learned through carefully designed instruction.

We will be using Anita Archer's vocabulary protocol to deliver instruction to all students K-3. The vocabulary words will be chosen from the stories through Open Court, focusing on 8 words per week for each lesson. Vocabulary cards and presentations will be created by the literacy coach.

Below you will find our weekly coaching videos which dive more deeply into each portion of the vocabulary protocol. Teachers will have 2 weeks to really hone in on each portion of the protocol and find best teaching practices that work for you and your students.

During that 2 week portion, Kayliann will be around to help guide you through the process and give feedback on your lessons, focusing on the current portion of the vocabulary lesson.
