A Message from the District Behaviorists
Hello,
As parents are reaching out for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) based behavioral supports during virtual learning, Autism Speaks NJ is a useful website for this and many other resources as well.
Another helpful resource is RethinkEd. All parents of students who participate within the Self-Contained Autism and Full Day Preschool Disabled programs can log in with their district-provided username and password to find many helpful tools, information and ideas to make virtual learning easier. If you cannot locate your username and password, reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. Additionally, for a brief tutorial on how to navigate the RethinkEd site, click here.
If you or your child do not have a Rethink account, and you would like to have one created to access site resources, please send an email with your last name, your child's full first and last name, and your child's date of birth, by clicking here to request that an account be created for you. Note: Account creation may take 24-48 hours once all of requisite information as stated above is provided.

How do I establish motivation?
Motivating your child to engage in virtual learning and school work in the home can be a daunting task. In the Self-Contained Autism Programs, for example, teachers utilize token boards to motivate students to engage in the learning process. See the link below to set up your own token board system. Additionally, token boards can be found on the Rethink website under "My Resources -> Printable Materials -> Category: Motivation Boards." For students in the Self-Contained Autism Program K-8, we recommend Token Board 1.

Suggested Activity
Creating amazing pairing opportunities with your child doesn’t need to be challenging. It can be simple and fun! Consider coming up with an activity that is stimulating and fun like getting outside to play and/or exercise. You may also engage in a virtual field trip with your child which can be an amazing learning opportunity to learn and discover together!
