Science Fair 2023

  April 12th 2023

 Set-Up 6:30pm/ Presentation 7:00pm

Welcome James Monroe Scientists!

This will be the place for you to find all of the information you need to help you with your science fair projects! Please see below for how to structure your experiment.

Getting Started with the Scientific Method:

1)  Ask a Question

A non yes or no question that you can answer by doing an investigation (example: Will salt evaporate with saltwater?)

2) Gather Information

Gather background information through observations or research to understand the question better.

3)  Make a Prediction

Make an educated guess about the results.  (An “If,then” statement)

4)  Plan an Experiment

Make a list of the materials needed and the steps of the experiment in order.  (a “How To”)

5)  Conduct the Experiment

Do the experiment and record data.

6)  Analyze the Data

Make a chart or graph of data and explain what it means

7)  Conclusion

Tell if your prediction was correct and discuss

8)  Communicate

Tell about your investigation and its results at the Science Fair!

Sample Display Board

White display boards with 3 sections WILL BE given to you.

Title – Make your display title stand out.  A good title can make someone want to know more about your project.

Photographs – Pictures of your experiment should be used in your display.  They can show some of your results of other important parts of your project.

Colorful Presentation – Help your display stand out.  Use colorful headings, graphs, charts, and pictures.  Make the display organized and easy to read.

Equipment and Materials – You may want to display some actual materials and samples from your experiment in front of your display board.  Avoid bringing in things that are large, fragile, or hard to carry.

Important Note: No hazardous materials, fire, or animals allowed!

Bring your trifold display board and experiment the night of the Science Fair!

(If your project is messy, please consider bringing towels for cleanup.)

There is limited access to electricity. If your project requires a plug, please reach out in advance to coordinate placement near an outlet.
