To earn college credit, students must pass a dual-enrollment class with a C or better. The grade earned will be part of the student’s college academic record. Unlike AP classes, students do not have to pass an exam to earn college credit. College admissions counselors may consider dual-enrollment grades during the admissions process.
The majority of the courses will be offered at your high school but some specific courses may be needed to be taken at the MC campus. In order to take a course on campus you must be 15 years of age and in your 2nd semester sophomore year.
Depending upon the given course, you will earn either 3 or 4 credits towards your MC degree. If you are taking a Science class, you will need to fill out an application for both the Fall and Spring semester.
No. You can earn credits for the courses that you take without completing an entire associates degree program. If you do not earn an associates degree upon your high school graduation, you can still continue taking classes at Middlesex College. Credits earned during your high school career can be transferred to other academic settings. Be sure to contact the college/university prior to taking the dual enrollment course to see which courses are eligible at their school.
No. There are no placement test requirements to take any dual enrollment courses.
Any student in any grade level may begin this program. In order to earn an Associate degree, the student should begin in sophomore year and will need to complete the entire courses required for that degree.

Middlesex College has a dual admissions program with New Jersey City University for Criminal Justice. This program is designed to offer students a unique opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Science degree “seamlessly” at two institutions of higher learning. Under this agreement, students will enter into a sequential degree program wherein a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (B.S.) degree at New Jersey City University (NJCU) is predicated upon conferral of an Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree at Middlesex College (MC).
Students also have the opportunity prior to completing the Associate's degree from MC to apply to Montclair State University's Automatic Transfer Initiative. Together MC and Montclair will work collaboratively to streamline and automate the transfer process for their students.
Lastly, many students have transferred from Middlesex College to colleges and universities across the nation, including prestigious schools like Columbia University, NYU, UPenn, Rutgers, The College of New Jersey, as well as local universities such as Montclair State University, Seton Hall, Kean, Monmouth and more!
New Student Advising is an orientation session that is designed to help you prepare for your first semester at Middlesex College! New Student Advising is designed for First-Year Students (previously attended high school) and Transfer Students (previously attended college).
What is residency and will I need to do it?
For degree-seeking students, a credit hour residency requirement indicates the number of credits you must complete directly through the college in order to graduate with an Associates degree.
In order to fulfill your residency for Middlesex College, students must take either 15 credits or 5 classes on the campus, or online classes offered by the campus, or during the summer or on a satellite campus that is affiliated with Middlesex College.
