Find Your Location and Improve Its Accuracy

Google Maps may have trouble locating you. If the GPS location of your blue dot on the map is incorrect or missing, you can take some steps to resolve the issue.

Tip: These steps will also enhance your search results and make them more relevant to you.

Find Your Current Location on the Map

Open the Google Maps app on your Android phone or tablet.

The blue dot on the map shows your location. If there’s no blue dot, tap the "My Location" button at the bottom right.
Tip: Tap on the blue dot. In the new window that appears, you can enable or disable your device's location or location history.

How Maps Finds Your Current Location

Maps estimates your location using the following sources:

• GPS: Maps uses satellites to determine your location with an accuracy of about 20 meters. GPS can sometimes be inaccurate when you're indoors or underground.

• Wi-Fi: The location of nearby Wi-Fi networks helps Maps know where you are.

• Cell Towers: Your mobile data connection can be accurate within a few thousand meters.

If your location is still incorrect, you can try a few things:

• Turn on Wi-Fi

• Restart your phone or tablet

What the Blue Dot Means

The blue dot shows your location on the map. When Google Maps is uncertain about your location, there will be a light blue circle around the blue dot. You could be anywhere within the light blue circle. The smaller the circle, the more certain the app is about your location.

Tips:

• If the blue dot isn’t showing or is gray, Maps cannot find your current location and shows the last known location.

• If there are obstructions between you and GPS satellites, like parking garages or tall buildings, your blue dot may not be accurate.

Finding Your Location on Other Sites and Apps

To find your location on Google Maps using other sites and apps, follow the steps above. However, some features may vary:

• You will be using a different site or app, not Google Maps.

• You need to allow location permissions for the site or app used, not Google Maps first.

• When using Google Chrome or Safari, you can only find your location on secure web pages that display "https" in the address bar.

टिप्स:
